Now, don't get all gung-ho and phaser everything in your man cave.

Short of installing six mini LEDs, run by a LED chaser circuit, the limp dhpk engines will certainly suit battle weariness your looking for. Liking how this build is unfolding.

Peter, that’s exactly the configuration I played with; five 3mm LEDs soldered together on a chaser. Looked terrible. Also tried a bunch of flashing LEDs - looked even worse!
I missed two ‘windows’ to illuminate before shutting up the saucer which has peeved me no end, especially as the rest looks as well as I’d hoped.
    Now that you mention phasers...

Sorry to read about being peeved, especially to no end 😉 . Perhaps paint the window, as if lit, as you would in a painting (just a thought).

The LED chaser circuit ought to have a resistor-capacitor in series somewhere (on circuit diagram). By decreasing the value of either (usually the resistor) the chasing speed will increase. It could be increased to a point where it seems all LEDs are on similtaneously. I think the ideal speed ought to be fast. A trimpot of/near original resistor value ought to adjust the speed to your desire. Trimpots have three pins, if only two is required, short the centre pin to one of the other. If you decide to venture on this course I would trial the circuit on spare LEDs first. Otherwise, you would be REALLY peeved if you blew the LEDs in the enclosed model.

I’ve now buttoned up the warp nacelles but I’ll take your advice and play around with lights and resistors (the equations are pretty easy to work out) as I plan to do other Sci-Fi builds. Now that I’ve found a whole new way of injuring myself (soldering) there’s no stopping me.

No worries, mate - been compared to a lot worse than Victor Frankenstein (or even his monster, for that matter...).

No modeling on Friday night; it’s been a long hard end to a long hard week, so just relaxing. I’ll get into the Enterprise later and hope to really get some hard core progress later. In the meantime let me introduce you to the best pizza cutter this side of the galaxy...

    Hilarious, Peter!

David, that IS an awesome pizza-cutter!

    Am I #100?

Oh No! Not a Star Trek Pizzarama.
I hope it has pepperoni, capsicum, onion, mushroom, with extra cheese.

Well, I DID get some bench and this is how we got on...

It was a very tricky job getting the hull, saucer section, and engine nacelles all co-ordinated - the wires had to be all connected before fitting everything. And there is no good fits on this thing.

But, eventually Scotty, Bones, Spock, and Kirk came through as always.

I’ll let it settle and do some more sanding and painting tomorrow.

What a surprise effect those LEDs have on this model. It surely gives it both life and vastness in size.
I always wanted to build such a model. Sorry to read about it having problems getting it together. But you know what, for the lighting effect, it is worth the hassle.

You are doing a marvelous job in fashioning her into shape. But remember, David, that the walls are thin.
