I've been following @johnb and @fiveten and their Hs-123 projects. Great work.

Then I was straightening things up the other day and ran across this - the AMTech release of the kit from around 20 years ago, with a resin cockpit. Also injection-molded landing gear legs to do it without the spats. And a very good decal sheet.

So I decided to take it out of the Box O' Doom and build it.

As Spiros and John have demonstrated, the old Italerei kit is still good. And it's even better with a good cockpit. It's still a simple kit - this would be a good first biplane for the two-wibg-phobic.

I totally agree Tom, minimum rigging and some sturdy struts make this biplane a less daunting challenge for us “monoplane” modellers.
Following your build along with the “Combo” WIP of Spiros & John Inc.

This is a great entry, my friend @tcinla! The resin cockpit will make this kit shine, something also true for the unspatted wheels.
    Looking forward to your progress!

Great to see another one being build, Tom @tcinla
The resin cockpit is a very nice addition to this 'simple' kit.
Really looking forward to your progress.

    Here's the kit assembled.

I decided not to use the kit-supplied ordnance, which is really oversize. the Hs-123A used SC 50 50kg bombs, and what's in the box is about the size of the SC 250. So I robbed bomb racks from an Eduard Fw-190F-8 and found some more in-scale SC 50s that I will use.

The airplane will be done as a well-worn 2./SG 2 airplane on the southern front in 1943. All the markings of the airplanes in yellow East Front markings are wrong - the yellow was for the Central and Northern fronts, while the Southern (Ukraine) front used white ID markings.

The add-ons that the AMTech kid has really improve things - the resin cockpit looks good when installed and the open landing gear looks more like what this hard-working airplane looked like.

Those bombracks do indeed look much better like this.

Wow! Tom @tclina. Seeing the box art and contents gave me a real AMtech flashback. I haven’t thought about or seen this kit since it was first issued. All three of you are doing impressive Hs-123 builds.
I’ll be following along best as I can from from our jungle casita in southern Costa Rica where internet connection is sketchy at best.

Here it is painted and decaled and weathered. Done in 71/65, the final camo scheme for these airplanes, as an airplane from the Stab/SG 2 in late 1943, coming to the end of the Hs-123's life.
