Thank you for the nice feedback my friends @johnb @fiveten

While getting the last details of the IP so that the canopy can be glued, been going around the wing radiators. As you can see in previous photos I had applied some PE parts provided in the kit (supposedly to replicate some sort of wind breaker or so) but decided to remove them since I found no photo of an 109 E-1 with those in use
Here’s how the 3 radiators look like

Another point of interest are the exhaust stacks.
I had made my mind early in this build to replace the plastic parts

for some nicer and hollowed resin ones
These are the quickboost set meant for the Tamyia kit, but with some minor sanding fit perfectly.
Oddly, the kit’s exhaust are not easy to insert in place (?) I did see a tip at Wingsy FB page that recommends to trim about half of the first row and it slips to place without effort. With that you get the plastic in the exact shape and dimensions of this resin set, minus the hollow ends 😉

    More to come soon

The radiators and exhausts look great, my friend @holzhamer!
Interesting that the kit provided exhausts do not fit.
    The AM ones look great!

Indeed Spiros, though for sure it’s my fault... there must be some logical explanation. Perhaps some scalpel to thin the frontal cover, which is where the stacks slide to

A huge improvement over the original exhausts, Pedro @holzhamer
The radiators look indeed great as well.

@holzhamer - yes - those stacks are a night and day dif compared to Wingsy's. And those radiator vents look real sharp. The rivets on the fuselage and the rest of the molded detail appear to be very nicely done so thumbs up to Wingsy for that!

Pedro @holzhamer - you do such great work with the cockpit. That looks just stupendous. And I am glad to see confirmation of the kit quality I found with your build of it.

That set of decals is going to really set this off nicely.

    Thank you Tom! @tcinla

One last view of the cockpit tub prior to installing the frontal windshield piece

The gunsight comes from a quickboost set, and with the exception of the emergency canopy release lever (that red handle on the left) which is scratchmade and the Ultrcast seat, everything else is OOB.

Frontal windshield piece attached… very nice fit

And a dry test to see how the propeller unit sits. Just perfect!

I’ve mentioned earlier that I found that Wingsy could have opted for plastic over PE parts in several areas. These are one of them

There are others, like the exhaust shields, which being photo-etched are indeed “in scale” but are a pain to glue plus the fact that they’re very fragile while handling the model as you can see here
I’m leaving these for last and I advise anyone building this kit to do the same.
    More next weekend 😉

Great progress you have made while I have been running around in small circles, trying to catch up on life 🙂
I shall try to get a move on this evening - fingers crossed - but first I will have a thorough read of your build log @holzhamer. Great stuff!

    Pedro, @holzhamer
I have been absent from Imodeler for about 4 days... I've been busy with other life things. I come back, and it seems as if you have practically built the rest of the kit. Incredible workmanship on display right here ! It really looks impressive.

The replacement exhaust parts really improve the looks of the nose section... 🙂

@holzhamer - I ended up cutting some .010 sheet plastic and making the exhaust shields. Perhaps not "to scale" but they fit better and because I could use plastic glue they held better. I don't know how I managed to forget doing that and mentioning it in my review. When I do another one, I shall also do that with those exhaust gates on the radiators. You're very right that those parts should have been made of plastic.

    That’s a good hint Tom @tcinla
I’ll see if I have some Evergreen that can be reasonable thin and try to replace all 4 deflectors using the PE piece as a template.

    @lgardner
Thanks for kind words Louis. I’m hoping for neat looking paintwork ahead!

Oh my! Those PE shields look very challenging to install, my friend @holzhamer!
Your 109 looks better and better!

While away from the bench all week I had some thought about replacing those PE parts for some plastic, following Tom’s comment.
The fact is I’m still building the kit so that means I can still change things without loss, so this morning I began cutting some Evergreen sheet (4mm) and started by the frontal radiator gate

Cut to size, still to sand the rough edges and bent to shape. Let’s see how it turn out tomorrow

Also pick up where Erik @airbum already been, meaning- drilling up vents.
The first one is the frontal opening of the exhaust mount. Wingsy made it but it needs some widening to become visible and more credible

You can see the difference between one already “worked up” and the other showing how they both come in the bag.

Then comes that big lower vent, which still needs some cleaning btw…

And finally the starboard small scoop

    More work tomorrow!

Yep, sure did Tom. Food for thought is always welcome @tcinla
