Looking great, my friend @holzhamer! A wise move to replace those PEs with styrene.

    Thanks Spiros! @fiveten
The frontal piece was easy, but those bigger ones underwing need some extra care to get them in size and proper shape…let’s see how they turn. If I don’t like my work, I can always revert to the PE parts

looking good @holzhamer. The resin exhausts are a huge improvement. and so are the scoops you bored out. I do like those styrene pieces you made over the PE as Spiros said.

    Very nice Pedro @holzhamer
For sure your styrene parts will turn out great.

Thank you all for the nice and even humoring comments eheh

So it’s a wrap for the green house paint work.
First I trimmed a bit of the canopy parts edges so that the main canopy part, the moveable one, could fit in. By chance my sanding was spot on since the part just slided in between the middle and stays put without any help

All air scoops and holes are drilled and flushed to my best ability, including the wing MG holes

I am considering adding two gun muzzles inside to add a bit more to it.

The wing radiators gates were cut and glued, again to my best ability. Even that small protruding pipe discernible on the right side radiator of the photo angle comes from strecth sprue, since the original plastic went awol never to be seen again

I’m reasonably pleased with the whole thing, I know my scratch work is far from perfect, but it’s the best I can achieve and the kit starts to look like a true 109 E.
    Paint work soon to follow!

PS- the kit masks have a rather poor adhesive, since as seen in the photos above the rounded areas are already lifting up. This needs to be fixed before painting starts

To me your scratch work looks well performed, Pedro @holzhamer
Adding the gun muzzles will be a great addition to this build.

Count me in too for regarding your scratchbuild skills perfect, my friend @holzhamer!
    Looking super!

    Phase II begins!

Painting a standard hard edge splinter of RLM 70/71 over 65 is perhaps the easiest and still most challenging scheme for a Luftwaffe model.
I even came to think this will be a good prelude for the later Dornier 17 Z build…

When I wrote “easiest” I meant no soft edges lines (which I do freehand) or mottling, just straight lines and angles that can be simply achieved with masking.
When I wrote “challenging” I meant the masking… lots of tape is consumed, even in a small size plane like this one, and the time it takes to apply it is also (again!) challenging.

First thing is some preshade. Now the plane I aim to depicte was photographed during peace time. This meant very well kept machines, adding to the fact that the plane itself was fairly new (1 year old if so).
This means very little “weathering” right?
Still getting a very dark plane as it comes from the jar is not my creative vision (let’s call it this way please). I will try to keep it simple but still attractive to eye with some colour depth here and there.
That’s why I preshade the topside in white, and will add some splashes of yellow here and there too soon

Hopefully this will “break” the 70/71 a bit.

As for the underside a simple black marbleing base will also “breach” the uniformity of the blue 65.

Here’s how it turned out after 1 spray hand

Indeed the marbling technique made the undersides looking more lively, my friend @holzhamer.
    Super job so far!
    Looking forward to the 70/71!

Great work! I will definitely be referencing this build when my time comes to assemble the model. This will be my first Wingsy kit. Can't have enough 109s in my collection!

Can’t help but agree with your opinion Jim! And I can add that this one will not be the sole Wingsy 109 I build. When the E-4 comes around I’m grabbing one for sure

Spiros @fiveten - it won’t take long to get the whole model painted 😉
    Cheers

@holzhamer: that's amazing preshading you did there Pedro. You sure have a steady hand for those straight lines. Wait a minute, I am confused. Did you write you used masking tape to get those lines? How many rolls did you use up?

I will have to try that additional mottling technique next time. It all looks terrific!

Thanks Eric @eb801 - the masking tape will only come to play later when the black green 71 is used, so that the splinter is achieved.
The preshading is all freehand my friend
