@airbum - too bad about those thick decals. Are they kit supplied? Eventually they will settle down I would think.

It's also May garden time here at our house. My presence is required outside these days so it's back to modeling for an hour at most in the evening.

Hopefully they will still settle, Erik @airbum.
Although by looking at the edges, they do seem to be very thick indeed.
Painting the larger ones might be a good option.

    Erik, @airbum
I am sorry to hear this is happening with your decals. First, I would first make a masking template using the offending decal as a master pattern, just in case you end up having to remove them.

Next I would try giving the decals more solvent, then use a hot / moistened cloth (or paper towel) and try to press them into the panel and rivet lines. Even this might take several attempts.

Then if you were unsuccessful, drag out the masking tape... and use it to remove the decals and resort to spraying them on.

Please keep us posted. Thanks for the updates.

Erik, can you tell what AM decal brand are those?

I would try other decal solutions but most importantly use a couple of minutes oh mildly hot hairdryer over them (providing you have not yet applied any sealant on top of the decals of course). If that doesn’t help them get more “blended” then no luck my friend…

I may have the same number and JG.54 shield in better decals if you want

Have you tried to strengthen the solution a little, for example with a little acetone ?

Shame about those decals being too thick they look good otherwise!
I have just kept using repeated applications of the solvent to get thick decals to settle - some take 3,4 or 5 applications till they are settled!
I have used Tamiya x-20a thinners as a solvent before on really thick decals and it has worked well.
    Best of Luck

Gents – markings continue! It gets a lot easier now, but you are still welcome to take a guess @fiveten, @eb801,@johnb, @lgardner, @holzhamer, @faraomike, @davem and @lis. As always thanks for all the advice and comments!

    Nationality marks!

With the decals finding it hard to fall in, the rather large cocardes gets fitted

What is that? red with white center? Danish perhaps?

Even got a small Danish flag on each side!

Generous amounts of micro-sol seems to work – partly at least.

I did read all your good advice, but decided to give a brand new bottle of Micro Sol a go. It seems like it works better than the old one I used, so a few brushings more will follow.

next up it will become harder to hide the true colors, so stay tuned to see if your guess is the correct one!

Seems like you are on winning side with the new Micro Sol, Erik @airbum
Indeed large roundles. Cannot think of anything else but Danmark.

I used pencil for weathering to sinking decals in panel lines

Decals look great and seem to gradually conform, my friend @airbum!

    Blue centre perhaps Erik@airbum?
Captured by the French during the battle of France maybe?
    Looking good!

Humm, if it was the French captured Emil it would have the early 79/71 full splinter camouflage, but all the markings you used thus far point to that bird alright Erik @airbum. Wonder if you have something I am not aware of up your sleeve? 🙂

Btw, you can use a toothpick to push less conforming decals down the seam lines at least (rivets is another different story). Apply gently but with a steady hand

Thank you for the comments and all @johnb, @lis, @fiveten, @davem and @holzhamer

    Blue dots!

As David and Pedro guessed it is French!

WNr 3247 of 1/JG.76 it is – captured by the French during the battle for france on this very day (30/5) in 1940 near St. Dizier.

I have run the curved side of my tweezers along the lines, and it appears it does help the decals sink in, but they are very thick! Should you want to make this one I highly recommend painting the marks instead – that way you only need the cn and 6 from the spares box!

The decals are from a set called “Messerschmitt in French colors” by Berna Decals, and contains markings for two Bf-109’s (an E-1 and E-3), a Bf-110 with invasion stripes! and an Me-262, all in French colors, so there are a lot of options to choose from!

next up - stenciling! And a few coats of varnish. And some wheels. And slats. And detail painting. Oh, well, still far to go before I come crawling over the line behind Pedros build in this challenge.

Ah! Never mind that Erik @airbum

Looking really nice. Definitely not a Jabo but also not your everyday 109 for sure.

I was only aware of the full 70/71 captured machine, not this later high viz 65.

Looking forward for the upcoming steps my friend!

P.S. yesterday saw Wingsy announcement of their upcoming E-7, first one that comes with a full compliment of SD-2 cluster bombs. Now how’s that for a future Jabo build
