Looks excellent from here, my friend @johnb!

    Could be a lot worse @johnb 🙂
And now you mention it, smaller blobs might have improved the result a tiny bit, but these were after all field-painted dots, and so they would have a lot of different sizes and shapes depending on the painter.
    So, in short: well done!

@fiveten, thanks a lot, Spiros. With decals and weathering I'm sure it will look acceptable.

@airbum, thank you, Erik. Maybe these dots were done by a painter who wanted to have it done quickly. Nevertheless, I'm not going to redo the season, but for a next time I think I will go for a sort of masking sheet to create the dots, similar approach like you mentioned.

I also think your green splotches look great, John (@johnb). Erik has the right idea: These camos were applied in the field, so I doubt the Hauptman was standing there checking the size of the splotches when the maintenance guys finished painting. I would bet there was a bunch of variation.

@gblair, thanks, George. Let's see how they will look like after weathering.

@fiveten, thanks, Spiros. Time for some clearcoat and start decalling.

Forgot that I had to apply the white tailband as well and paint RLM02 on the slat region prior to the gloss coat and decalling.

Started with the tail band, masking and painting.

Next masking the slat areas and painting RLM02. When the slats retract, the green dots do unfortunately not match the shape. I was already aware of that but will leave it for this time. Next time I will first paint the camouflage with the slats retracted and at a later stage mount them in open position.

Since I had the airbrush up and running, I also painted the propellor and cone.

Great progress, my friend @johnb! As for the mottles matching at the slats area, the old quote applies:

A many will stare, a few will notice...

@fiveten, thanks and fully agree on the quote, Spiros.

Oh, I will notice - as I painfully do on many of my own builds 🙂

I try to make a mental note each time, but every now and then it just slips my mind at the wrong moment.

@johnb - The slats were probably "down" when the airplane was painted - they weren't looking for a First at Telford, you know. 🙂
I suspect the airplane looked a lot like this. I've been trying to decide whether they did the blotches with air guns or brushes, but then it came to me they probably did it in North Africa so definitely paint brushes. So it would look just like this.

    John, (@johnb)
Your 109 looks excellent, and it's always a good sign when you put the "shoes" on. I like how the camouflage has turned out. You are doing a wonderful job on it.

Hopefully I will have an update on mine soon. Life has been getting in the way of my spare hobby time, and I have not done any work on my 109's. I hope to have an update posted on them here soon.

@airbum, thank you, Erik. Once the build is finished, just a few will know or notice it.

@tcinla, thanks, Tom. Brushed sounds very plausible out in the desert.

@lgardner, thanks a lot, Louis. If I ever will build another one in this scheme, I will go for smaller dots. Looking forward to your 109.
