@coondog - Hey Matt, it's actually the figure that comes with the Tamiya kit (Vought F4U-1D with Moto Tug). It's even the intended pose although it doesn't sit perfectly which is why the gaps in his armpits needed a bit of filler. I went with rubberized CA since it sets instantly with a bit of ZIP kicker.

The small air scoop on the right/forward fuselage needs to be removed. That is only for the F4U-2. The Tamiya instructions are pretty clear on this but it's easy to miss.

The pilot looks terrific and adds so much more character to your Corsair build.

@misfitnick - Thanks for the keen observation Nick. I did completely miss that.

@tcinla - Tom, I understand you have far more knowledge on the subject than likely even Tamiya... my kit instructions have the 1A with the belly window clear and they do show the 1D with it painted... is Tamiya incorrect?

I’m not Tom but I am very knowledgeable about the subject.

Here’s what I have posted about the bombing window on the underside of the fuselage. This is listed alongside more details about the Corsair in my dual Boyington builds.

This is what Dana Bell has written about the subject in one of his Corsair books as well.

    Hope this helps.

@lgardner - Thank You Louis! I knew I had seen this information somewhere on iModeler, obviously it was on your post.

@lgardner - Hey Louis, how might one go about finding the Bureau Number associated with VMF-111, No 122? Since I'm going for the actual thing now and not the TV version, I'd like to be as accurate as I can. The Devil Dogs and Bill Magill make for some interesting reading.

Is it as simple as the #122 is actually #50122? Seems logical...

@brithebuilder - If you haven't done one of these before, here is my "Corsair 101" article at Modeling Madness, which should help you get it right.

@lgardner, thanks a lot, Louis. Dana Bell has indeed written some nice parts about this.

Your reasoning makes sense, Brian @brithebuilder.

I was looking for similar information on my build, 'Big Hog' from VF-17. I found that this specific aircraft is BuNo 17640, so it should have the transparant window, am I correct?

@brithebuilder and @johnb - Early F4U-1As had the window - it got dirty in the Solomons, and was either painted over or replaced with metal sheet.
