The TBM-3Rs were crucial during the Chosin campaign. While the Marines were constructing the airfield at Hagaru, the Avengers were the only airplanes that could land on the under-construction runway (using full carrier-landing slow to full stall and drop it on) to bring in supplies and take out wounded.

TBM-3S and -3W Avengers also flew from the CVEs after Chosin, in the ASW role to protect the fleet carriers of TF 77.
