Removing the masks did unfortunately show that the orange paint did bleed onto the white paint but also some of the white paint chipped off even though there was clear coat applied. All parts suffer from this.

Pity the white peeled off, my friend @johnb. Also for the orange bleeding. Some repainting is ahead of you and all will be fine.

Don't you just hate it when this happens John, I do, hopefully it will work out in the end !

Just a little bit of touching up needed, not too bad, @johnb, maybe some of it will be hidden by the decals.

@fiveten, thanks, Spiros. A little surprise in the next post.

@kalamazoo, I fully agree, Allan. It turned out less 'dramatic' than I expected at first, see next post.

@chinesegeorge, thanks, George. The touch up turned out to be easier than I thought.

I walked away quite frustrated from the bench after looking at the results. Quite some bleeding of the orange paint and, what I thought to be, chipping of the white paint.

Returning to the bench and having a better look at how to get it solved, I noticed that the darker marks on the white paint was not chipped paint but remains of the glue from the masking tape. Using a damped cloth, several rounds, I was able to remove the glue and as a bonus this worked also for removing the bleeded orange. You can imagine that this made my day and also that of my daughter, she was clearly not happy with the first outcome 🙂

Glad you solved this John @johnb. Decals and paint always seem to throw the occasional monkey wrench at us modelers. Gobs of patience and perseverance eventually wins, and we can move forward.

@fiveten, thank you, Spiros. I was quite happy when it turned out like this.

@chinesegeorge, thank you, George. On the red color, after a new layer of clear coat.

@eb801, thanks, Eric. Fully agree on that.

Another round of gloss clear coat to secure the orange paint. Almost done cutting the second round of masks for the red color. Only issue I'm facing is that the paint is collecting a lot of dust, not really visible from the picture, but it is definitely there.
