Looking good - I've never tried Valejo can-paint, but the old Humbrol really did shine when polished lightly. It will probably need some clear to seal the polished surface.

@airbum, thanks a lot, Erik. A gloss clear coat will definitely be applied.

Masking done to paint the nose black.

I think we spend more time masking than we do actually applying the paint, @johnb, I’m sure the black nose will turn out fine.

I’ll second that @chinesegeorge and @johnb. Time spent masking as well.

@chinesegeorge, @eb801, @fiveten, thanks a lot. First time I used the Tamiya flexible masking tape (the blue ones on the picture), worked quite well.

Indeed the amount of tape and stuff used will cover at least two or three full kits if it is just added all at once 🙂

Will you be spraying a thin layer of clear forst to prevent black runners on the white parts @johnb?

Hey there John @johnb. Don’t mean to be super picky here but the Tamiya flexible tape I use is white and I couldn’t find any blue online. Is your Tamiya tape repackaged for Europe? I do use 3M blue tape all the time which is sorta flexible if cut in thin strips. But for contours you can’t beat Tamiya’s.

@airbum, thanks for the tip, Erik. Did not think of it before, but now the answer is yes.

@eb801, not picky at all, I definitely made a mistake here in naming it Tamiya. I do remember I was looking for the Tamiya tape but could not find it at a small contest, only a 'look-a-like' brand. In blue. I cannot compare it with Tamiya, but at this moment it does the job quite well.

@johnb - that's all that matters. What does Erik mean by "clear forst"? Clear flat?

@eb801, typo - clear first - just a layer of clear of some sorts (gloss?) to seal the edge between the plane and the tape to prevent seepage / runners.

@airbum, thanks for clarifying, Erik. I assumed you did indeed mean a clear coat. Would have been better if I used this approach between the other colors since I do have some runners there. Definitely a great trick which I'm going to use more often.
