@eb801, thanks, Eric. Indeed some extra work, no idea why it cracked so much. Been using both, clear coat and black paint more often, only the other way around, first paint before coat.

Black paint applied over the primer, so far so good.

Paint was still looking okay after one day drying so I removed the masking. Some touch-ups to be done but in general not too bad.

You can crack on now, @johnb, in common use “crack on” means get on with the job.

@chinesegeorge, a valid expression in this case, George.
@gblair, thanks, George. Still quite some touch-ups to do of paint which ran underneath the masking tape.

On the wing surface four greyish colored stripes are present, I don know what the purpose is of those, maybe something with the exhausts. To apply them I first masked nearly the entire aircraft to prevent overspray.

Here the results after removing the masks and how compared to the painting instructions.

@fiveten, thanks, Spiros. Any idea why they painted those areas in a different color.

John, that is to fight corrosion. Usually these propliners were polished, but som areas got attacked by corrosion, and needed to get some sort of treatment, and paint is a easy way to keep the white powder down. On the DC-4 of greenalndair there is some rather large areas that are painted. Later airliners with painted areas as well as polished metal usuallt has the paint because these areas are composites. Hope that explains the reason @johnb?
