Last antennas are finally mounted, VOR antenna and a pole antenna (not sure if I use the correct naming for them). Now that everything is in place and the last touch-ups are done, it is time for the final gloss coat. Unfortunately temperatures are below zero outdoors and even in the garage temperature is too low to get a good coating.

Fabuloso, John @johnb. Getting closer and closer. Now don't knock anything off!

It never pays to airbrush when it's too cold or there's moisture in the air. Always leads to orange peel like disasters. Sometimes I warm up paint bottles in warm water first and test my airbrush cup to make sure it doesn't feel cold.
I also do all my airbrushing in my garage with music blasting. That seems to help.

Very nice final details, @johnb, definitely best to wait for your garage to warm up a bit, you don’t want to risk the final gloss coat to go wrong after all your hard work on this model.

The beauty of making more than one model is being able to shift gears . . . keep busy and creative while working on the Tamiya kit. It allows you to wait for the optimum temps for your DC-6. John I'm looking forward to the article and the photos. Chuffed is a good word.

Looks great, John (@johnb). When you get this close to the end, it is easy to get impatient. Probably best to wait for better conditions.

    Looking fantastic, my friend @johnb!
Hard to get patient when it's final coat time 🙂

@eb801, thank you, Eric. Great tip about warming the bottles, I do prefer however to wait for the temperature to rise a bit.

@chinesegeorge, thanks, George. Indeed, I would go mad if at this stage the final coat goes wrong.

@stephen-w-towle, thank you, Stephen. True, current Tamiya builds, the Suzuki and Mustang, make sure I can wait with the final coat.

@gblair, thanks a lot, George. Always difficult to wait at this stage. Would love to see this one finished.

@fiveten, thank you, Spiros. Final major step will be rmeoving the masks.

Gloss coat is applied, now it is time to remove the masks. Port side is finished as seen on the picture. Next will be starboard side and cleaning up some of the sharp edges which are left after removing the masks.
As mentioned earlier by Erik @airbum, some of the windows should bnot be present in this Greenlandair scheme, but it was too late to get them removed.

WOW - it is a really beautiful result John. On a kit this big noone will see those tiny windows being there - the size and good looks will distract people from noticing them. Well done - looking forward to some sunshine for a photo-op!

@airbum, thanks a lot, Erik, Likely only experts in Greenlandair aircraft will notice.

It looks great, @johnb, I wonder why those windows were removed.

@chinesegeorge, my guess why the windows were removed is that they would be very likely to sustain damage from the frequent bombardment of ice from the propellers, especially in north atlantic conditions.

@chinesegeorge, thank you, George. Personally I have no clue why they did that, but I think the explanation of Erik @airbum makes sense.

    @fiveten, thanks a lot, Spiros

@airbum, thanks for the clarification, Erik.
