Love those holes, too, George @chinesegeorge!
As for the foil, I have zero experience as well...
And I agree about our great firend Louis's @lgardner contributions here!

    Hello George, @chinesegeorge
I think you are on the right path with getting the adhesive. I plan to use some of it on a 1/48 scale Monogram B-29. It is planned for the Korean War group build and it would break the bank trying to use numerous packages of "Bare Metal Foil" in order to cover it. From what I have read about using household foil to cover models, is to use the thinnest, least expensive type of foil you can find. It is supposed to work the best as it allows the surface details to be telegraphed through to the outer surface of the foil. Also by using the adhesive, you can flip the foil over and use the less shiny side too. This will allow you to make variations in different panels should you want to.

I had a very hard time trying to cover the cowling using foil on mine.

One thing I did discover about Japanese aircraft that were bare metal... On the Nakajima built Ki-44, the individual panels all look to be the same color and have a very similar reflectivity. On Kawasaki Ki-61 and Ki-100 planes, the outer skin panels have a different reflectivity, such as you would expect to see on an American built plane.

As far as masking over foil... I would highly recommend that you paint the wing bandages, anti glare panels and such before you add the foil. Foil can be easily lifted when you remove the tape from the surface. If this happens, simply press it back in place. If you do have to mask foil, I would recommend using something with a low tack adhesive, similar to that which is found on "post it" notes.

I also thank you guys very much for the kind words... I try to spread good will and do what is right.

Take care and I look forward to your next installment.

Hey George. Just started to check out your progress on the Shoki. The cockpit detail looks very nice. I am impressed with your precise positioning of the dial decals on the side panels. Things like this make a big difference to the final result.

It seems you are based in China from your comments. I had read on someone's build that the thinnest (and cheapest) kitchen foil is made in China. Thinner is apparently better in using it for model making. There is a specific microscale foil adhesive available here but there might be something similar in a Chinese hobby shop. I think China has some pretty serious modelers who would represent a viable market for specialist materials, including finishing products.

My opinion on the maneuvering flaps is to show them down. I will have them deployed on my Shiden Kai. There are such a significant feature of these late war Japanese fighters that I think they should be shown clearly. While it is true that they did not deploy on the ground spontaneously, I believe they could be cranked down for maintenance with the aircraft parked. I have pics of Shiden Kais stationary in hangers with partially deployed flaps. Just my two cents worth, Looking forward to more progress on the build.
