Great work so far, George. I like your methodical approach to chipping and wear. I will watch this with interest as I work on my Shiden Kai. I plan to use an undercoat of acyrylic metalizer with maybe some Tamiya clear as protector and then try bits of white glue over that before IJN Green main coat . Hopefully the white glue won't lift the metalizer when it gets literally chipped off. It's good that you can adapt to contingencies so far with your hairspray technique.

    Lovely work, George.
Your hairspray result looks very convincing.
This turns out to be a stunning Zero!
    Waiting in anticipation.
    All the best!

Happy to see you managed to get around your bad hair(spray) day and pushes on! Thanks for sharing this vital info - will be needed in most EoJ builds I suppose.

Thanks all. Sprayed Tamiya XF-11 J.N. Green over the rudder and painted over Hinomarus. For the sprayed over insignia I masked with Oracal Oramask 810 stencil film cut with a circle cutter. This stuff is low tack and didn't lift the paint or bleed under, no extra de-tack required.

I'll let the paint set up and then gloss coat

This "under new management" A6M is really coming to life... These last photos you have posted show off all of your hard work. Well done George. @blackadder57

Thanks you, gentlemen. Started the deecals. From the get-go I thought the fuselage roundel looked too small but I thought maybe it was just an illusion. Well sirs, not an illusion. I placed one on the model and indeed...too small. I grabbed some spares from the stash. The red center as supplied is too large. Also note that the writing is a bit smaller and the numbers a tad too large. Nothing to be done here so I'll live with it

A quick question. I'm visiting more and more builds because of the GB and it may seem that I'm being anti-social but I can never remember which builds I've visited and where I left off. I either have to start at the beginning or the very end. So here's the question; is there a way to pick up where I left off in the threads? When I'm in camp, the internet is almost non-existent so when I get out a week later, there are some times several pages added to a build or none so I never know where I've been.

    Hi George @blackadder57!

Your Zero looks great, decals sizes are not that apparent.

This is going to be a beautiful and rarely seen built Zero!

Cannot help you for the "pick up where you left" thing, though.

However, regarding the "antisocial" issue, most (all) of us here believe that most (all) are very interested in each other progresses, eager to post comments whenever possible.

So "antisocialism" is not an issue, definitely not for you, my friend.

    All the best!

I see what you mean @blackadder57 - I just missed your previous post! I really do not think there is any way to "bookmark" a thread here, but I could be wrong. Luckily I have a job where I sometimes have to just wait for things to happen, and that gives me great opportunity to catch up every now and then. Still a bookmark would be appreciated 🙂

Now - your build has made some serious progress, and its looking better than ever!

Thanks Erik. Its really frustrating to go to a thread and realize, after three pages you've seen it all before or hit the "New Reply" button and find out you have to go back five pages to get to where you left off

After a discussion on another forum it was brought to my attention by a member with better eyes than I that the canon were not removed as per the decal instructions. Sure enough, after enlarging the photo of my aircraft, there it is, in all its glory, hidden along the wing leading edge.

Pondering how to rectify this I set about working on another project (to be posted shortly). When working on a project or two I keep the small parts in a Tupperware tray that is divided into three partitions. In a different partition were the canon barrels that I though I had consigned to the trashcan. Out came the drill and voila. A millimetre or two shorter but whose counting

As can be seen, the decals are done

I was struggling to get the landing gear to hang straight. These are handed and like a buffoon, I cut them off the sprue tree, painted them up and promptly forgot which was which. No matter which way I test fit them, they leaned slightly toward the fuselage. I was about to modify them but decided to check some books. I was surprised to find that they canted slightly inwards ala the Fw 190

I suppose the guns might have been kept for balance reasons? cheaper to use old japanese iron than mix a barrel of concrete 🙂

Great progress here - keep the posts flowin'

Thanks Erik. She stands. Six more parts and done, hopefully before I head back to camp

What are the requirements for the final photos and do I make a separate thread? Thanks in advance
