It took two full packs of Patafix, my friend @airbum!
    Thank goodness it is reuseable!

Aaaaand I just found THIS little piece of gold in the EOJ GB! What a cool subject. Spiros, you’re lucky you found that canvas image. What a save! That’s why I’ve collected so much stuff on my Shinden. Hoping to find little things like that. And Louis, yours are coming along great! I can’t wait to follow more of this thread. Have fun in this mini gb.

Thanks for kind words, my friend Jordyn @1corsair64,

Finding that canvas image was such a relief!

Gathering as much as possible info on the specific subject you are modeling will result in having a clear image of what your model should look like, all the way down to those small details that will make the quality difference.

I am so glad you went through all the thread! Your involvement in our hobby is amazing, making older guys like me most proud of you!

Of course, should you ever decide to join us with a Toryu, you are most welcome! There is still sufficient time left at this amazing EoJ GB!

I just removed the tac from my Toryu and here's how it looks:

    Not bad!

A coat of future will follow to protect the sensitive matt green...

    More to follow!

Cheers, Great Toryu Mini GB and even Greater EoJ GB!

    Spiros, @fiveten

Magnificent ! It looks like you are well on your way, and will be adding the small parts soon. I started work on the second Ki-45 model yesterday, but I have not taken any pictures of the progress. It seems we are all having trouble uploading photos lately.

    Thanks Louis my friend @lgardner!

Indeed, uploading pics is a hit and miss situation here lately...

Also, PMs are having some issues, too...

Here's how the Toryu looks after an initial touchup (I cleaned very carefully any green oversprays with a cotton bud, moistenned with thinner) and a protective coat of Future afterwads:

Looking forward to your Toryu in-progress pics, my friend. I am really excited with this mini GB!

Hope others might join it? (no, no! I didn't mention ouir good friend Jaime @jetmex...or didn't I?)

Nice round of paint Spiros. Amazing what a load of tac will do for you 🙂
    Well done my friend @fiveten!

Hey Spiros, I’d love to join y’all here. Unfortunately, for now, I don’t really have anything of the Japanese variety other than my Zero and Shinden. What could you recommend on the cheaper end of the Toryu spectrum? I’ll start saving. Hopefully I’ll get it around Christmas if I can withhold my impulses lol.

    Hey Jordyn @1corsair64!

If I may express my humble opinion, I think you should not get into any expenses now and build what you have already.

It will be equally pleasant, and you can post them at suitable GBs here, like the EoJ, or the "Work in Progress - Aircraft", or..

We will be watching, admiring and commenting on your works at the same way. The fun will be the same! And it will be a lot of it! Because, above all, for me at least, modeling is fun!

So I (we) are eagerly waiting on your next instalment for the Shinden!

I like what I see here ! The dark green camouflage spots look very good on the light gray / green background. It is quickly turning into a fabulous looking model of a Ki-45.

If it was my plane, I would consider painting the "bamboo color" a little darker. Maybe you could use a wash to "darken" it up a little ?

The seat looks to be very close, but it's hard to tell exactly, and each computer monitor will make things look different. Lighting can also affect how a color will look in a picture.

When I was building my 1/48 Tamiya Hien, I did a little experiment showing how light affected how a color looked... and the results were shocking ! I posted this "experiment" in the Tamiya Hien build journal.

In the end it's your plane and paint it how you want to. Hopefully the "PFP" invasion was not too bad and you were able to handle it with some ice cream bribery ! 🙂

    Jordyn, @1corsair64
Spiros has spoken some very good words of wisdom to you. I am watching your work and looking forward to seeing you complete what you have started...

Maybe I should practice what I'm preaching... before I start more builds too. It is very tempting to do, and I do completely understand.

There is no need to worry about having time to complete your work. I can (and will) extend the deadline as needed. In the end, it's a hobby and we should be having fun while doing it. Take care my friend, and I hope you had a good Thanksgiving weekend. Congrats on your ROTC promotion. Now I will have to call you "Sir", since I was an enlisted man in the Army myself... Lieutenant bars look good on your uniform. Well done !

I have been building some of the smaller parts for both kits in preparation for painting in my usual "assembly line" fashion.

Here are both cockpits prior to painting. The one on the left is completed, and will have the "Schrage Musik" cannon installation. The one on the right side is a standard Ki-45 cockpit and it has a lot of parts left to add on.

I assembled one set of wings. The fit was superb, and no gaps were present. Hasegawa also used some good old common sense, and has engineered one of the plastic sprue attachment points on the upper wing half in a manner that it will be hidden behind the engine assembly... The trailing edges are paper thin, and look extremely realistic. I am very impressed with the quality AND the engineering that has gone into this kit. Way to go Hasegawa !

The wings slide onto the main spars that are part of the cockpit. The wings are not yet glued in place, I simply did this to show you how the parts fit together. This arrangement also ensures proper dihedral alignment.

Here are the majority of the small parts. In this picture you will see the two different exhaust styles, with the "thrust" type looking like a 4 legged spider... with 10 legs instead of 8. 😉

This last picture shows everything that is done so far with both kits. Both sets of nacelles, cowlings and wheels (and hubs) are now done. I have one set of main landing gear doors completed, and both types exhaust systems are done. The cockpit, fuselage halves and wings are done for one plane. The propellers are ready to install. They are painted and waiting on the rest of the build to catch up... I'm hoping they don't have to wait too long.

    As always, comments are encouraged.
