Kit is looking great, especially without an airbrush. An airbrush and compressor have a high upfront cost, but once you get one you will wonder how you ever survived without one. I still occasionally use paint from a spray can, such as Vallejo or Tamiya, but airbrushes are so much more controllable.

I think I'll eventually get one, but for now, I'm happy painting by hand. Maybe not for german armor camo, but such is life sometimes.

What George said is right on the money. Having an airbrush is really nice. But I built models for many years and only used brush painting or occasionally I would use a spray can. For now if I were you I would concentrate on building and honing your skills. There’s nothing wrong with a brushed on paint job. Meanwhile you can start saving your money and get the airbrush setup later. My advice on that would be to get the best one you can afford. It’s a waste of time and money to buy a cheaper one of a lesser quality when you can spend a little bit more money on the purchase and get a better setup that will last you for years. They make some nice mid range airbrush kits that work nice and that’s what I would do if I had it to do over again. I wasted my time and money on some cheap stuff and they never worked out. So I would have been better if I simply saved up some more money and used it towards the purchase of a better version in the first place.

You can always ask around and see what others like or what they are using. You can get a better idea that way before you plunk down your cash.

It has been over 3 months since my last update here. Well, wait no more. It's not done, I need to do my weathering before I can call it done. But i couldnt wait any longer. She has been waiting for her spot for too long.

It looks nice so far! I do not recall if I already told you this, but my first models were brushpainted too, and then to finish it all after decals and all, I sprayed some matt clear from an aerosol can. Not ideal if you want to have the paint itself sprayed, but gives a very nice surface. Now, for the airbrush, I got really lucky to have a Badger 150 donated for free - that was a real treat, and got me started. What airbrush you choose depends on what you are able to spend, but have a look at youtube, there are some great tests, and one of my favorites were a guy that took a rather cheap airbrush and tuned it by polishing the needle and some other stuff, enabling him to paint rather nicely.

    Happy modeling - stay safe!

Looks awesome in its "natural environment" (flying). I am sure at some point in their history every well-used airplane was new and without weathering. When I was a kid I had a long string running from corner to corner in my room with a number of models suspended from it. It looked really cool until the weight of the models finally brought the string down in the middle of the night. I started building my models with their landing gear down after that.

Thanks for yalls story. For whatever reason I didnt get any notifications for the replies. Sorry. But I'm back with an update. In the first pic is the sorts before phase, and the second is the after phase. I did check references for this, and exaggerated some things, but I like it.

Weathering looks awesome. I'm assuming you painted the bare metal. Really nice job and a lot more patience than I have.

Yea the weathering was hand painted. I'm about 6 hours in at this point. I don't know why, because normally I dont do this. It's actually really fun.
