Started this today. I'll not go into gory detail as I'm sure most everyone but me has already built this. I plan to paint it as the aircraft pictured on the box but without the invasion stripes as I've seen a pic or two of this aircraft without them. I did get an Eduard Look cockpit set for it, I never did get very good at painting instrument panels and such. And, off I go

Looking forward to your build, Mark (@markh). I think Louis Gardner is also building this kit. He is posting in the Works in Progress Group.

I think you are going to really enjoy building this one. Like George said above, I have two of them currently underway with a build journal here on Imodeler. I tried to list the areas to look out for, which are not too many. The Eduard IP is a great addition to an already very nice kit.

I will definitely be watching this one ! Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions, or if you need any pictures. I'll gladly help out if I can.

Skoal huh ? For years I was a Copenhagen man myself. Finally quit about 10 years ago...

    Thanks for posting it. 🙂

Thank you gents, and welcome aboard

Louis it looks like you're doing yours up paying far more attention to colors and other things than I intend to, but I will shamelessly steal some of your information. Yeah, Skoal and if I had any sense I'd give it up as well. Thanks for sharing sir

Pretty much all I've done so far is paint some parts as I have two things holding me up, the first of which is the arrival of a PE seat harness set. The second thing is feeling up to tackling the cockpit PE set, which I have not as being shaken like a cocktail in a hot dump truck for eight hours seems to take my energy away. This weekend, perhaps.

In my normal fashion I've changed horses again in regard to the final finish. I found decals for a natual metal bird flown in 1944 Italy and this will be a nice departure from the ETO fighters one sees all the time. Besides, I hate doing invasion stripes I always seem to bungle them.

Tomorrow is opening day for four species of Partridge/Grouse here in Montana so it's not hard to figure out what I'll be doing...perhaps I'll even loose a little weight

I can imagine how bouncing around in a hot truck all day would take the steam out of you. I had similar days when I worked as a firefighter. That's going to be a hard choice for you tomorrow ! Our Bow season is opening up soon followed by black powder. I used to tease my buddies about how a bow with arrows is for people that can't shoot a rifle or a shotgun. 😉

It's been many years since I've trekked out into the woods. Last time I went hunting was Thanksgiving Day in '93. For some reason as I've grown older, I have lost all desire to go out and kill anything anymore, and I just like living quietly out in the country on our little plot of ground. I've seen too much of killing and that's all I'm saying about that for now.

Don't get me wrong, if I had to put something on the table I'd do it again in an instant.

I'm sure that whatever you decide will turn out great. Speaking of great, your Mustang is looking that way, especially the wooden floor. Very nice ! You're on a roll brother. 🙂

Three of the four species are present out on the prairie and they are Sage Grouse, Sharptail Grouse, and Hungarian Partridge. These are what I'll be going after, and properly prepared, are very tasty. The Hungarians are my favorite, about the size of a Cornish Game Hen. Clean 'em, wrap 'em in bacon strips, and into the oven at 325 for about 45 minutes, serve with steamed rice and carrots. Now I'm hungry.

I think I know what you're referring to and if I'm right I was a couple years too young for that particular party. You don't hunt? Well I say you don't have to if you don't want to. It's something I've done all my life, however, and I enjoy the sport very much. I also like the tasty goodies one can come home with on a good day.

Thanks for the nice comments, and thanks for the look. Should not be too long before I have something that resembles an airplane

That does indeed sound very tasty ! Bacon makes everything sound great. I did hunt many years ago, although I have not gone in years. However if the need to put food on our table ever arose again, you can bet I'd be back out there in a flash. Same thing goes with fishing. I have just been very fortunate, that's all. Things could change in the blink of an eye. You just never know what tomorrow will bring.

By the looks of things, you will have an airplane before you know it. Keep it going buddy.

The Eduard Zoom set has proven to make things look pretty good, but it makes you work for it. Some of the stuff would not fit together such as the toggle switches so I did not use it all, but I'm pleased with it as it stands. Needs the gunsight, then the cockpit will be done. Decals arrived in a squashed package and of course the sheets have a pretty good crease in them. They are currently on a flat surface with a heavy book on them; I think they'll flatten out in a day or two. I've included a pic of the particular aircraft I intend to try to model. That cockpit sure was hard to take pictures of

Cockpit looks great, Mark (@markh). I also really like to have some photoetch available for the cockpit. I have reached an age where I tend to rely on photoetch to replace any painting skills I might have had 20 years ago. I am looking forward to the rest of your build.

That cockpit looks superb Mark. Great work.

I guess if Baseler's P-40F was "Stud" and his P-47D was "Big Stud," the P-51 would naturally be "Little Stud."
