Thanks for the comments guys. I started another build in the Empire of Japan group to break up the monotony. Haha

Back to modeling after a vacation with the family. This model has been a lot of work and I have almost given up on it a couple times. But I must push on so I can get back to my Japanese planes.

I got the windscreen mounted and masked. That was a pain as I did it by hand. Then primed in black and sanded smooth.

Then a coat of gloss black. It didn’t come out as glossy as I wanted probably from the black primer. I usually shoot the gloss black directly on the plastic as the primer for the silver but this model had a lot of flaws I wanted to check with primer first.

Anyways then Alclad aluminum and polished aluminum followed. I lightly sanded and polished the model as it had a little bit of rough texture. I might spray some more polished aluminum on the fuselage to make it more shiny.

The decals don’t look usable so I’m still trying to figure out what color scheme I’m going to do. Hopefully I can find something that I can do with paint masks. Invasion stripes would be cool to as I have never attempted that before. Until next time. Cheers

Am I the only one here that's going to say anything about the mispelling on the box art?

You're doing well here. there are a ton of aftermarket markings for P-51s. I'd suggest you go to Eagle Cals (www.eagle-editions.com) and check their sheets. Totally accurate, well-printed, guaranteed good stuff.

For future use: the easiest way to make Interior Green was they way they made it back in the day. Pour in yellow and black and mix. repeat till you get the shade you want. About 2 yellow to 1 black, or thereabouts. Easy peasy.

    Progress is looking smooth, Jeremy.
Don't give up on this one, it would be a pitty to see it half-finished on the shelf.

    Hi Jeremy @jmillan!
The Mustang looks great so far, though it gives you some challenges...you cannot totally copy a Tam, can you?
Hi Adam @adamcda13! I personally love those misspellings, older Trumpy kits being among my favorites (I loved the "prepellers"!)
    Cheers, friends!

    Let me quote George (@gblair) in the beginning of the build David (@adamcda13);

It’s interesting that ICM misspelled “Mustang” on the box cover.
Jeremy (@jmillan), the silver looks great here! Will be interesting what the final verdict on the markings.

Natural metal is looking great, Jeremy (@jmillan). The prep work for this type of finish is overwhelming. After having been a teacher for 20 years, I tend to notice misspellings fairly quickly. Thanks, Erik (@airbum).

Like Dave K's "Be Were of Exhaust" decals on his XB-47 (search earlier posts), the mispellings can be painstakingly humurous. Personally, I find the box art suitable for framing. I'm also LOL because whereas Mustang was mispelled, 'personnel' was not...and I always get that wrong!

But the build looks amazing. I'm personally petrified of that much silver paint. Just never could get the hang of it.

Jeremy @jmillan, sorry to fill your thread wit "not-so-relevant" subjects, but, talking of missssplleeellings, please @adamcda13, @gblair and @airbum, @johnb and @tcinla, take a look at those Hobbycraft decals affixed (among others) to the starboard side of the front fuselage of my 1/48 Avro Arrow:

I could not resist for anything in the world for not affixing them at my Arrow...look absolutely strange in their "mistaken identity"! (The "less than perfect " (sic) kit of the Arrow did not mind at all...)

    This is absolutely hilaric. @fiveten
Thought that these kits were checked over and over again before releasing them to the market.
These mistakes however makes modelling even more enjoyable.
I'm curious what decals you will choose, Jeremy. @jmillan

These decals are great. I suspect they knew that there was a stencil there, but didn't know what it said, so they put something generic there. I would bet they figured no one would ever read the decals. I guess it is a tribute to decal manufacturers that they now have the clarity to be read. There was a time when they would have been unreadable, or simply missing.
