    Funny decals Spiros! @fiveten

Just for fun I thought I change things up a bit and do a custom make believe paint job for my daughter on this one. I made some paint masks at work for the nose art(her nickname), stars & bars and additional markings for her initials and birth date.

This is how the nose art came out. A drop shadow would be nice behind the red but that’s seems really complicated to do.

Also painted some color variations on the flaps and some panels. Hard to see with the lighting.

Next will be to paint the stars & bars and additional markings. And the spinner will also be red. Until next time fellas. Cheers

Custom paint job came out great, Jeremy (@jmillan). How did you make the masks?

Thanks @gblair I designed them in adobe illustrator and they were cut out on a vinyl cutter machine.

I could not think of a better noseart than one with my children's names!

Finished Round 2 of the Labor of love paint session this morning. This took quite some time to apply all the masks but I think it’s well worth it. I painted the white first then let it dry for about an hour then applied the bars and stars stencils with tweezers and followed up with the blue. Next time I’ll paint lighter layers of color though so it’s not as vibrant. I think I’ll tone everything back slightly with some super light sanding and also a little bit of weathering.

They didn’t come out as perfect as decals but I still think it’s worth doing it. I had one little spot of paint peel on the fuselage. Should of waited a bit longer to apply the star. But it’s not bad and I’ll just make it part of the weathering. Photos of the order of operation below. Thanks.

    Lost for words. . .

Stunning - I will have to get one of those cutting thingies. It gets right on top of my musthavewishlist, and in a few years I may be almost as good at it as you. Great stuff!

Your use of masks is super-impressive, Jeremy (@jmillan). I have done a little work with masks, but you are clearly the expert. Well done. Which brand of machine do you use to cut the masks?
