Started this project a few months ago, but life got in the way so I put it away until now. Got the interior fully detailed and closed up the fuselage last night. The fit has been superb and the overall quality is really top-notch.

A little more work on my 1/48 Hobby Boss Ka-27. Masked off the windshield with Tamiya reguar and vinyl tape, and Bare Metal foil for the smaller windows. Some of the delicate plastic control rods on the rotor assmblies were replaced with Albion tubing. I still need to add the plumbing to them. This really has been a relatively quick build and everything fits perfectly.

Wow that's a really intricate looking rotor assembly and swash plate... Your build has captured some great details... I'm glad to hear that the fit has been good. On most of the Hobby Boss stuff I've built recently, the fit has been nice too.

    Looks good !

Thanks, Louis. I'll post some additional photos tomorrow. Making great progress on this thing. HB has done a good job engineering this thing. The rotors actually counter rotate! Working on the tail section tonight and will hopefully finish detailing the rotor hubs.

I managed to get a little more done on my 1/48 Hobby Boss Ka-27. Added some plumbing to the rotor assembly and a few eyelets for the aerials. Made those from copper wire wrapped once around a #77 drill bit and soldered them closed. As you can see, I broke a support strut on the tail. I'll replace both with lengths of Albion tubing. Also made a UHF antenna for the rear based on photos I've seen.

Great work so far mate! The rotors look fantastic with that extra detail.
Nice interior detail also, I see the Russians have went for that loud blue cockpit colour again!

Thanks, Richard. It's a really crazy color and Mr Paint makes a perfect reproduction.

I started painting my 1/48 Hobby Boss Ka-27 last night. I used a custom mix of several Mr Paint paints in order to get the blue shade used by the Ukrainian navy. I love Mr Paint products for their coverage, ease of use, smoothness and sheen. I used them with Alclad gray microfiller primer, but can't say I'm pleased with the results. The fault lies with me. I think I may have shot the primer at too high a pressure that caused the paint to dry before it hit the model creating a rough texture that I'll have to polish a bit and re-spray.

Hi again, George. The blue looks like you have poured all the blues left from the Sukhoi in one jar. Cool colour in deed and the model looks spot-on as always.

I know the effect of rough texture of surfaces painted with Mr. Paint and I too blamed it on the primer when I first found it. The point is: at my current build I therefore wanted to make 100% sure that the primed surface is smooth and so I carefully sanded it before the Mr. Paint coat went on. Same effect though. I then went to sand the Mr. Paint coat and found that first this works quite well and second that the rough spots go away without the primer showing through. If it were the primer coat that is uneven, I would expect that sanding uncovers the primer at the hills of unevenness and lets the Mr. Paint coat on at the valleys. What do you think?

    Hi Johannes,

Good to hear from you. This was definitely the Alclad primer coat. I had this happen on a Hasegawa f-18 and it completely ruined the finish. I should have stripped it, but I was so angry that I threw it away instead. I built a 1/32 Academy f-16 that had a very rough surface that I has to sand down with 1200 grit. Yes, you're right. Once you put on the Mr Paint and try to sand it, it does exactly what you said. I think that might be kind of a cool thing in some cases or extreme weathering.
