I started this project a couple of months ago, but had to put it away until recently. This will hopefully end up looking like an old abandoned, mothballed derelict. I enjoy (maybe I'm a masochist) painting natural metal finishes, but I've seen some modelers from Spain create incredible worn-out metal finishes that I thought I'd try my hand at accomplishing. This is truly a really horrible model. Nothing fits so it required lots of gap-filling cyanoacrylate, polyester resin, and sanding. Despite it's shortcomings, it looks like it's shaping up to be a very cool model. II do love a challenge.

George, that one of their earlier efforts? You're doing a great job on her, regardless.

Bernard- It must be. I've been told that it's a 10 year old model. It's definitely one of the worst I've built. I need to finish up the Mig-23 before I dive into this one again.

I'm currently working on a derelict SU-15 like the ones you see in an outdoor display. This is the Trumpeter 1/48 Flagon A pretty much OOB. The kit itself is pretty terrible and required a lot of work to make the parts fit correctly. I painted it with AK, Alclad, Tamiya, Vallejo, Mig and Polyscale paints to name a few. It's my first attempt at a weathered natural metal finish and I have to say that I'm pretty happy with it so far. I just need to attach the landing gear and a few other little bits.

A little more progress on the Su-15. Got the gear on and the weathering is almost finished. I think it needs to go on a base, though.

Dang, George! You really got that "left in a field to rot" Soviet look. The base should have a lot of high weeds and detritus scattered about. Agree this just cries out for a base.
I recall a post some time back, of other Soviet stuff in a museum, maybe Stellans, this looks like it would fit in with no problem a-tall.
    Outstanding work!

Thanks, Bernard. That's exactly what I was thinking. I saw some photos taken at Monino with the tall weeds and trash thrown everywhere.

Speaking about wildlife for dios, does anyone actually make 1/48th cats, dogs, sheep? I always wanted some (nuts, I know) 1/72 seagulls for a flying boat/floatplane dio(s).I live miles inland from the coast, and they are a common sight.
Airfix used to have farm and zoo animals in their OO/HO figures, sorry I don't have any, these days.
Ever see the photo of the elephant helping to load the Dak in India? Or the painting of one moving an airplane? That sort of thing.

Check Walthers model railroad site, not sure what scale equals 1/48, but I know they have figures and animals
