The fourth member of the Ten Buck Club, this is a BIG airplane. Reasonable exterior detail, but fairly basic over all. So far no issues, but gluing up the wings will be tricky, as they're very flexible, and until "panelized", all over the place. Wing mechanism appears funky at first, but when entirely assembled should actually function.

Looking good Bryan. What markings/colours are you doing it in?

Although I have not found a photo on the web of the particular aircraft that i have markings for, it appears to be of the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing, based at Mountain Home AFB, It'll be gray over gray low viz.

I'm going to do an F-111C converted to a Navy B variant! It should look pretty spectacular when you're done. The F-111 is a sneaky looking jet!

Moving right along-slowly, as I contracted the flu for the first time in over a decade, I ran into a few issues concerning fit, the major issue being between the cockpit module and the rest of the airframe. As you can see, it really Tee'd me off. A bit of plastic card shimmed the tee to the correct length and resulted in a joint that was close enough to deal with.

After a little filling, I pre-shaded the whole thing-getting closer-but having a hard time imagining the finished product as this kit is a bunch of parts flying in loose formation, particularly the wings and the slop made necessary by the swing mechanism. We'll see...

Build is done, but not complete. Fought me all the way to the trash can. Salvaged the lead from the nose, and am moving on. Nasty ending for a nasty kit. Enough said.

Yes. It was THAT bad. There's a first time for everything. I have no "shelf of doom", but do have a nice trash bin in my modeling room/office. No regrets-except for a bunch of wasted time that could have been better spent.

Sorry to hear that, its a hard call to say "enough is enough" - you must have been pretty p'od to send it into the circular file at that stage of the build.

Not PO'd, just disgusted. Felt strangely relieved to not see it on the bench this morning. It was a series of "bargain priced" kits I used to determine whether jets would be fun. They are, but nothing beats a quality kit.
I also had a series of disasters during the painting stages that iced the cake, so to speak. I have a bunch of excellent kits in the stash, and may do another F1 build for a change of pace.

Know what you mean Bryan - although I ruined a good quality kit at the painting stage, when I could see no way of saving the build, which up till that point had been good - it went into the trash 🙁
