This one has resided in my stash since 2014 when it was new. I’ve been plugging away at it for the last week or so. Very nice kit with clever engineering. It looks a little daunting in the box imagining it all fitting together well, but it does. Unfortunately it suffered from a warped top wing and a tiny short shot area on the rudder. I straightened the wings as best as I could using force and a 48 oz. sleeve of canned chicken to weight each side while drying. The rudder is setting up now with some Tamiya putty.

Wow! so nice to see it has intake details! I wish I had snapped up one of the Red Arrows boxings when it was first released!
Best wishes on the rest of your build!
    Dan.

The warped wing situation created some gaps that needed attention. If the wings weren’t warped, I think this could’ve been built with zero filler. If you want to buy one of these, choose the current boxing and avoid the original 2014 issue. Airfix QC has improved over the last several years. To be continued…..

Primed with Tamiya white straight from the can. I want the canopy closed on this one to show off the Gnats lines. The color application sequence made me think that masking the cockpit and painting the canopy separately would be advisable. I wasn’t sure how many coats of fluorescent Orange would be needed and feared a masking ridge disaster. To avoid that pitfall, I used the kit provided open canopy and windscreen as a cockpit mask. Mr. Color Orange #173 did the job with a few light coats sprayed over the course of an hour.

    Great paintwork, John @j-healy
With Kingsday tomorrow in the Netherlands and everything being decorated in orange, this will be a perfect camo color.

Glowing! (in Denmark flourescent orange is usually referred to as "dayglow")

Nice work with the paint - that stuff is notoriously difficult.
