I got my hands on this last week. Despite having a couple of other projects on the go, I couldn’t resist starting it. Airfix is my favorite manufacturer these days. Their choice of subject matter and overall value are hard to beat. The engineering in most of the new kits is usually pretty clever despite the occasional head scratcher.

This Vampire seems to be another winner. I did some preliminary construction and have really enjoyed it so far. With careful construction, this should assemble easily.

Your photos demonstrate this kit is as excellent as has been "the word" going around about it, @j-healy. I definitely need to get one.

I got a little more detail work done today. Everything fits perfectly. The Vampire has a tiny cockpit. I can’t imagine how one would exit it in an emergency without an ejection seat. Being black, not much of the cockpit will be visible even with some dry brushing. I haven’t decided how to handle the seat yet. I may detail and use the one designed for use with the pilot figure. I already checked and it can be added after the fuselage is closed up. I may even have a complete airframe later today.

Very nice work done, John @j-healy
In case of emergency you have a nice fire extinguisher at hand.

Now that the basic construction is done, it’s weight time. The only area that presented an issue closing it up is in the cockpit area. I trimmed the backside of the side consoles and bottom of the center instrument panel to get a pretty decent fit. As you can see, I still have a slight mismatch of the fuselage top and bottom under the cockpit. A little Tamiya putty will fix that.

Sufficent lead to prevent it from a tail sitter.
