One of the best-looking members in the vast Spitfire family. Even if it is a Seafire 🙂 ! There is one at Yeovilton that I stop by and drool over whenever I get the chance to visit!

    Regards

    Magnus

The FR17 is good looking isn't it? There is a flying example, which is incredible given that there was little over 230 examples built at wars end.

Neil, it's just that spell check didn't recognize "ad hoc"...lol,
Gregor you are right, the Griffon powered birds have a "thuggish" look that really appeals to me especially the ones with the original style canopy. Bubble top Spits are just "wrong", well at least to me..;-)
Magnus you're a man after my own heart.lol

Rick, funnily enough youre not alone when it comes to the "bubble" - Battle of Britain ace Ginger Lacy was presented with a bubble Mk later in the war, and was said to have retorted "take that away and get me a real Spitfire!" As for myself I like all the Spits but have to admit the Mk1 - IX series look the best to me 🙂 As for the model, its literally falling together and i hope to get some paint on over the weekend. I'll post up some pics on Monday...

Progress over the weekend has been slow owing to family comitments, but i was able to slot some modeling in. The kit appears mostly while as i primed all the parts prior to construction. This has greatly aided paint application, and I may well continue this practice with future kits. Humbrol matt 90 (sky) has been applied in thin coats by brush to the undersides, and up over the relevant areas of the fuselage and tail. I have begun highlighting the panel lines using watered down watercolur washes, which appears to be working quite well.

Rick & Simon, thanks for the support - much appreciated 🙂 . This has been one of my more relaxing builds as it has went together like a Tamiya, if you know what i mean! Theres a load of spare bits left over and i'll post up a pic to let you see what i mean as you get a whole folded wing set as well as the fixed option, and RP'S, 3 auxilliary fuel tanks, tyre/wheel options, and fixed or deployed flaps. A great kit if you fancy the Seafire...

Making good progress here Gregor. Very cleanly built at this point.
I'm waiting on some pieces I ordered from Barracudacast for mine but I'm kinda dragging my feet to see what the next Group Build will be.

Thanks Al. I can understand why you are waiting because the FR 47 will be an involved build from what I saw of Jaime's wip thread! This Mk 17 has been great so far.

Hi Gregor sounds like your are about done, looking forward to more pictures. I've made a little more progress on my Wildcat V but nothing worth posting.
I've been looking for a post war scheme for my Mk XV. I'd like to do a Canadian Navy bird like this, mostly because the Maple Leave roundels make it more unique.

Are decals like this available? I think one of the HobbyCraft Mk XV kits had markings similar to this. If it has the Maple Leafs roundels in it, I'm sure I can pick one up cheap if any one can confirm this for me. Thanks

    --24 hours later---
As Homer Simpson would say-- Doh!
With just a bit more research I discovered the very decals I wanted on Belcher's Bits website. Hopefully that transaction will be completed today and my RCN Seafire Mk XV can move into my rapidly expanding iModeler inspired projects. Now if I could just get one finished..yikes

Hi Rick i've been looking at alternative schemes etc and found some nice French Navy options for the XV but nothing any better for my XVII, so i'm going with the kit options. I am now applying the Dark Sea Grey, in thin brushed coats. This si a bit time consumingas the coats are thin and i jleave 24 Hrs between each one. Should have it all "coloured in" by next week! The Canadian Navy machines look good by the way.
