Good into on the wingtips, Erik (@airbum). I have added the clear wingtip covers for the lights in a similar way, but have never tried to drill out a simulated lightbulb before. I will need to add that to the "to-do" list for next time. I have had similar problems with CA, and also wait overnight for it to cure completely. The other trick is not to put any up and down pressure on it, but use sideways sanding motion.

@airbum, thanks for sharing, Erik. One of those modelling steps I still need to learn, scratch building wingtip lights. They do look much nicer than just a drop of paint.

    @fiveten, @johnb and @gblair, a bit of paint today.

    Grey!

After I had cleaned the wingtip lights and used some maskol it was time to paint

I settled for Humbrol 167 for this one

I know Eduard tells us they were a darker grey on the belly, but other makes will have you add a single grey. I have not found evidence that the belly were darker yet, so for now it is 167 all over.

Of course I shall dig a bit more, but for now it is set aside to cure and then it will be masked for some red. By the way, the Humbrol grey were a bit easier to airbrush with minimal orange-peel surface. Probably I thinned it better than the green over in another build where I used green xtracolor.

Grey looks super, my friend @airbum! Solid decision to keep one tone of grey allover 🙂

Looks great, Erik (@airbum). I also think I would go for the single gray color.

@fiveten, @gblair and @johnb, another colorful update on this one

    More color!

    Winered, it said.

With the grey dry, it is time for some more masking.

this time including pieces of paper to save just a tiny bit on the tape.

Of course the fragile maskol did not take the fumblings well at all

and so it was removed and a new blob were added to keep the glass free from paint.

    Now, the color

I used the instructions for an eduard limited edition S-99, and it had some mr color and other numbers. Checking online, the numbers referred to winered. I had a few Humbrol hues, and lo and behold, Humbrol states that 73 is their bid at winered, so humbrol 73 it was.

fortunately the color turned out a bit different from the lid, and is a bit closer to acceptable. I will finish the layers, and get back to you with an update then

Looking good, Erik (@airbum). Sometimes it is amazing how much tape and other masking it takes to protect your prior paint.

@fiveten, @gblair and @johnb, this time the masking tape is off

    Grand reveal!

With the last round of winered on, the tape and paper comes off

Producing a huge pile of used tape and paper, the colors come to light

I had somehow forgotten (or postponed?) the hingeline in the cowling, and with the tape off, I cut the remaining line to make use of the full hinge (the hobbycraft parts do not have such a hinge) and glued it in place. It resulted in a bit of a mess, but I have to make a few touch-ups anyway. It is all in areas where the airbrush did not reach, the tape held out seepage perfectly as far as I can tell.

    Details and decals next

The red does indeed match the decal color perfectly.

The red color is awesome, Erik (@airbum). I really like that it is somewhat subdued and not a really bright red.
