Thanks, guys. I appreciate the empathic observations on paint mishaps. I am forging ahead with fingers crossed. I figure I can handle local flaws better once the main painting is done. Here is an update on the masking process and painting of the second color. As I showed earlier, I prepared some camo outlines on "tracing paper" (actually Airifix decal protector paper) and so got those out to match to new masks to be created for the fuselage.
I began to create paper masks using the translucent paper as a guide.

I contemplated doing the fuselage demarcation with silly putty but decided against it after finding it too sticky and awkward. BTW, the masks all have excess length to fold under the wings and fuselage where they are taped down. The tension keeps them in position during painting. In this whole process I also kept checking how the mirror camo looked in both the kit painting guide and my Osprey book. The pattern is based more on the latter and period photos as I think Special Hobby is wrong in places about some shapes. I changed the port wing pattern slightly when it got to paper form and followed my original outline otherwise. BTW, I have masks for the roundels to make sure there will be no ghost of a camo line running through the roundel decal. The mask breaks this line. The tracing paper was helpful to drape over the round fuselage but I need the paper to be stiffer and not likely to get blown off position by the airbrush. The wing and fuselage masks mostly conformed as much as I needed them to. I want a tiny bit of underspray since the RAF camo has a slightly soft line. Some corners and curves needed clumps of silly putty as well as the front of the cowling. It helped to tack down the paper as well as add curves.

Final photos show the RAF Green applied.
I am not going to remove the masks until I inspect the model fully for any spots I may have missed. Touch ups will follow tomorrow and then removal of the masks. I also include some shots of the prop hub after removal of the cylinder mask. It worked perfectly - nice and symmetrical and a very clean line.
Here it is rotated to see the accuracy of the mask.
Unfortunately the SG Black flowed under the Tamiya tape a bit for the prop tips. I can fix this quite easily later on with some careful sanding and a tiny respray of yellow. I hope you like the results. Sorry about the suspense on the masks, I can barely contain the urge to pull them off myself at this stage. Patience will pay off until painting is done.
