    A good save, Colin.
Both the chip off and spider leakage are corrected very nicely.
    Some great airbrush work done.

Paint looks great, Colin (@coling). There is nothing more annoying than getting to this point and then having trouble with the paint. I always hold my breath when I am painting, because there is usually no easy fix. When my paint pulls up, it is usually because I have left some wet sanding residue on the surface. Not easy to fix after the first coat of paint hits the model.

    Colin, @coling
You have had your share of things happen to you during the painting sessions. I am happy to see that you have managed to get things squared away. It always seems like I have something bad happen when I spray a model too. It can be frustrating at times and has caused me to sit a model down and walk away from it for a while...

I like how the paint is shaping up on your Buffalo. These are really cool looking planes in my opinion.

Yours is looking good ! Keep it up my friend. Thanks for posting the updates.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the empathic observations on paint mishaps. I am forging ahead with fingers crossed. I figure I can handle local flaws better once the main painting is done. Here is an update on the masking process and painting of the second color. As I showed earlier, I prepared some camo outlines on "tracing paper" (actually Airifix decal protector paper) and so got those out to match to new masks to be created for the fuselage.

I began to create paper masks using the translucent paper as a guide. I contemplated doing the fuselage demarcation with silly putty but decided against it after finding it too sticky and awkward. BTW, the masks all have excess length to fold under the wings and fuselage where they are taped down. The tension keeps them in position during painting. In this whole process I also kept checking how the mirror camo looked in both the kit painting guide and my Osprey book. The pattern is based more on the latter and period photos as I think Special Hobby is wrong in places about some shapes. I changed the port wing pattern slightly when it got to paper form and followed my original outline otherwise. BTW, I have masks for the roundels to make sure there will be no ghost of a camo line running through the roundel decal. The mask breaks this line. The tracing paper was helpful to drape over the round fuselage but I need the paper to be stiffer and not likely to get blown off position by the airbrush. The wing and fuselage masks mostly conformed as much as I needed them to. I want a tiny bit of underspray since the RAF camo has a slightly soft line. Some corners and curves needed clumps of silly putty as well as the front of the cowling. It helped to tack down the paper as well as add curves. Final photos show the RAF Green applied. I am not going to remove the masks until I inspect the model fully for any spots I may have missed. Touch ups will follow tomorrow and then removal of the masks. I also include some shots of the prop hub after removal of the cylinder mask. It worked perfectly - nice and symmetrical and a very clean line. Here it is rotated to see the accuracy of the mask. Unfortunately the SG Black flowed under the Tamiya tape a bit for the prop tips. I can fix this quite easily later on with some careful sanding and a tiny respray of yellow. I hope you like the results. Sorry about the suspense on the masks, I can barely contain the urge to pull them off myself at this stage. Patience will pay off until painting is done.

    Really great progress, Colin.
The propellor hub looks indeed fantastic.
Looking forward to the result when you take off the masks.

You are the master of masking, my friend @coling!
Once again your attention to detail is phenomenal.
Eagerly waiting for those masks to be removed!

Your paper masks are ingenious, Colin (@coling), especially the one for the prop spinner. I always resort to tape, which can sometimes be a frustrating endeavor. I obviously need to try paper again.

Thank you for your kind responses, gentlemen. Today I have done the touch ups and removed the masks. For the most part, I am very pleased. No paint lift at all on the upper surfaces. None on the demarcation line on the lower fuselage, either. The lines are just as lightly feathered as I wanted for the RAF standard.

No corrections to do there, except on a small part of the cowl and around the fuselage stripe in one place. No leakage past the cowling masks in to the engine (that was a relief, it would have been very hard to fix). The paint is very smooth and mostly lint free as well. Here is one pic of the undersides. Obviously there is some lifting near the leading and trailing edges but none in the middle. I will be able to fix this quite easily (I think), by sanding to adjacent panel lines and respraying with tougher Tamiya paint. I am very pleased that there was no lifting at all at the demarcation line with the upper camo. I was concerned about this at the aft fuselage and on the cowling but my Tamiya clear barrier seems to have protected the paint well in both places - phew! I hope you like the results. I am very encouraged. Just have to wait a bit for everything to fully cure before doing repairs. Thanks for watching!

Looking absolutely amazing, my friend @coling! Your excellent painting brought up the nice Buffalo lines.
The black liftoff will be quite easy to fix, I agree.
    Looking forward to it!

That is some fine work Colin. The mix of colors are a winning combination and a good choice. Decal time. . . .
