    Very good progress, George @gblair
Following Tom's @tcinla advice is very helpful, it worked flawlessly for me as well.
Agree with you on the nose section. A little too complicated.

I've made a start on both the Tamiya and Zvezda kits.
I've assembled much of the Tamiya cockpit and painted the basic A-14 colour over that and multiple parts such as the wheel wells. I don't have photos of that, but the pic below shows the unpainted cockpit. You can see the ejector pin mark on the back of the clear back armour. That's the only flaw in the kit so far.
The Tamiya kit includes masks that you have to cut out yourself.
You are on your own for the Zvezda.

I've also assembled the Zvezda parts but, again, no pics.
Re the AM upper air scoop - you can see that the Zvezda kit, which includes a detailed engine, has two optionally removable panes forming the scoop plus four other removable parts to show glimpses of the engine.
I'll glue all this closed, though.

I've also included a scan of the wing bomb bay doors that can be posed open or (separate parts) closed.
I plan to have mine open.

Nice that you started your kits, my friend @michaelt! Grossly interested to see how each builds!

    Great start, Michael @michaelt
The Tamiya cockpit looks nicely detailed.
Zvezda engine compartment engineering looks better than the Revell/AM ones.
Looking forward to the other differences.

Not a lot progress to mention.
Just the wheels, painted and weathered a bit.
You do have the option to choose for flattened and unflattened tires. I did choose the flattened ones.

Looking great, Michael (@michaelt). Your interior looks much simpler than the AM kit, but the nose looks just as complicated as the AM nose.

Spent my time today finishing some sub-assemblies that have really tried my patience. Some of you who blazed the trail on the AM kit advised the rest of us not to trust the diagrams, but to read the written instructions carefully. This is especially true on the nose section and the wing center section. The diagram isn't overly clear how all these pieces fit together, but the written instructions make it perfectly clear what needs to be done. In several places, the instructions warn you to let the cement dry completely before moving on to the next step. The parts in these steps are building blocks that create a strong structure if built correctly, but can cause some real problems if you don't pay attention.

I sprayed the fuselage with gray primer to check my seams, especially along the upper wing fillet. One of the areas on the wing-fuselage join needed a little attention with some putty and sanding, but it was minor. I am letting everything dry solid, then we will see if all the sub-assemblies actually fit together. Cheers.

You are progressing real nice, George @gblair
Looking forward to see the center wing section being attached to the fuselage.

Thanks, Spiros (@fiveten) and John (@johnb). I noticed that the other half of the balance on the rudder has disappeared. Just like that! Another resident of the carpet home for wayward model parts.

Wheels came out great, John. Did you use a mask to paint them?

I had removed the balancer at the start of my build, in order to attach it at later stages. Of course, I manage to lose it, so I had to scratch build one... 🙂 my friend @gblair...

    G'day George (@gblair),
I like your colour choices in the cockpit.
I'll keep it in mind as I paint my single seater.
