    G'day Sebastijan (@inflames),

    Your build looks great.

I love the painting stage, but I'm still working on my weathering techniques.

Everyone else's weathering looks fantastic and realistic and mine always looks awkward and unrealistic - I guess it is a matter of perspective.

I agree that this is one aircraft for which it would be hard to overdo the weathering.

I'm looking forward to doing mine.

Michael , I guess trying to recreate realistic weathering is just a matter of patience and practice and lots of experimenting until you find what works best for you. I use a variety of weathering products - from oils, enamel washes to pigments and AK's weathering pencils (just started experimenting with these).

Finished with weathering the upper sides. Combination of enamel and oil washes and watercolour pencils (starting to experiment with these). Just a few more details and she'll be finished.

I agree with the others, Sebastijan (@inflames), your paint and weathering are perfect. I really like using oils on mine, and I am just starting to use watercolor (weathering) pencils. Well done.

    Wow! That’s a stunner Sebastijan!

I have started building mine, 2 months after posting my intention to do so πŸ™
I have a quick Q for you guys, just what colour was used on the wheel bays of the Il-2?
I have found online a sort of primer that looks green, but very faded, but definitely not the H70 from Gunze some claim.
Hoping to post my work so far this weekend. Thanks

Thank you very much, Pedro! I have used a mix of RLM02 which is greenish grey and some other more cold grey. Checking reference photos it seems every aircraft has it in different colour.

    Thanks Sebastijan, @inflames
I guess that makes some sense, because plain 02 (Gunze H70) is off the mark for sure. I’ll mix some grey and green too and who knows

Hi Pedro (@holzhamer). Welcome to the build. For gear and gear bays I used a color from AK Real Colors which was a steel gray color. This is supposedly what the tech manuals called for on these planes, but it looks like the Russians used whatever they could get their hands on. If you look at restored IL-2s, you will see a variety of colors used.

I haven't read the entire thread so please forgive me if I've missed the answer, but what are the set of curved lines (Page 1, Decal K) forward of the canopy and behind the air scoop there for/indicate/do?

Anything from greenish gray to steel gray might be acceptable, my friend @holzhamer!

Those lines seem like bombing aids to determine the dive angle when dive bombing, my friend @adamcda13.
