Paint came out great, Michael (@michaelt). I have had a lot to trouble in the past covering my pre-shading with too much paint, so now I use post-shading almost exclusively.

I presume you are using Vallejo Model Air, although they say it is ready to paint directly from the airbrush, I'm still thinning this paint on a 1:1 ratio with thinner. I also add one drop of Vallejo flow improver to every five drops of paint. This gives an acceptable spray with the airbrush I'm using.

John (@johnb), I have been thinning the paint 3:2 paint:thinner. I don't have the flow improver so I might go get some. I still find that the green is more translucent than the other colours.

George (@gblair), I used the dark grey to mid-shade (?) the light brown and then go over the light brown again.
I have done this in the past - paint the camo colour, pre-shade and then go lightly again with the camo colour.

I tried to lightly sand the brown wing tip where there was a little build-up of the paint but ended up scratching the paint off - evidently it doesn't like sanding. I repainted and the scratches are not too obvious - hopefully they will disappear further under a clear coat. Maybe I should use a primer with these paints in future.

Looks excellent from here, my friend @michaelt! I m no acrylics guy, so, I cannot say anything more than I have heard that most acrylics are applied better over a coat of primer.

    G'day Spiros (@fiveten),

I normally use Gunze acrylics and these go down fine without primer and can be sanded within reason.

I know that many people prime their models - and I have bought some SMS black and white primers (I used the black to pre-shade) - but I am/have been too lazy to prime everything.

Thanks for keeping tabs on this build (and others) and for the helpful comments, as always. :~)

Perfect paintwork from what can be seen on the pictures, Michael @michaelt
This triple color camouflage scheme looks great.
The flow improver helps in such a way that the paint dries less quickly and therefore also prevents clogging of your airbrush.
Acrylics are indeed scratch sensitive and it surely helps to apply a primer as a first layer.

    Nice job, Michael!

I've been away to Oslo for an extended weekend and I am back with what I guess is my final in progress report in this thread.

Added muddy pools and algae, further played with grass greens, chernozem browns, painted the exposed rocks, etc.

    G'day John (@johnb),
Thanks, I like three-colour camouflage schemes.
I must admit, after I had painted all three colours it reminded me of the Australian Army three-tone camo scheme of Cam Green, Tan, and Black that you can see on this Land Rover - and I had the same comment from a friend.

    Thanks too, Sebastijan(@inflames).
You continue to impress your work on the base.

Your base looks amazing, Sebastijan (@inflames). Will look great with your model.

Your paint looks great, Michael (@michaelt), and does indeed look like Australian camo. I usually don't use primer unless I am using a light color like white, yellow, or red. I just used some ModelAir Ferrari Red on my current model and it was extremely translucent. I have never had any luck trying to sand acrylic paint. I usually end up trying to use some very fine sandpaper to blend the edge of the paint I removed and then repaint the area.
