    Me-109E-3a, L-2

Yet another migration from my 109 werke topic

And once again the base kit is the grand old Tamiya 109E-3 kit. One thing that may improve the good looks may be the tie-downs under the wing.

The original part lacks a hole – quite understandable, given the restrictions of the manufacturing process.
One solution is to drill a hole, but I have opted for some very nice “eyes” from GasPatch.

These are really anchor points for the likes of WW I biplanes and such, but I think they are just right for the 109 tiedowns.

next up – I really have no idea how detailed this topic will be as this kit has been built over and over again. Most likely just a few major progress reports?

The Gaspatch "eyes" are a big improvement, Erik @airbum

Always good to watch one of your kits "in-progress", Erik (@airbum). I sometimes use similar things sold for HO Scale (1/87) model train detailing. They call them "eyebolts" or "lift rings".

Thank you gents. @johnb aint they just, @gblair, always nice to use whatever you have for something innovative, Thanks @fiveten. And so we move on. . . .

    Interior

    OK – Interior it is.

A few packages of Eduard PE sheets arrived the other day, and I shall be using them on some of the Tamiya 109’s In progress.

Still need to cut and bend and add a few details.

next up I suppose the cockpit is finished

Thanks @fiveten and @johnb, but really it is all down to AM products. . .

    Not quite finished

    but getting there

Last time I wondered if the cockpit would be finished for my next post. Not so – a lot of time wasted in the saltmines lately and not so much time at the bench. However, progress is made on a smaller scale than expected.

Apart from the IP, the converted fairing for the airintake is glued in place

and most of the IP installed. Still needs a few bits and some more paint.

Speaking of air, the radiators has been opened to enable a greater flow of air

as these are operated by the temperature, they were often open when the plane were on the ground. Especially on a hot summers day.

next up it is hoped to have a few major parts assembled – tune in and check in a few months time!

Thanks @johnb, @fiveten and @gblair. I managed to close the fuselage AND add wings!

    Fill me in!

Having assembled the wing/fuselage, attention turned to filler

With the cockpit assembled, the fuselage went together a month or so ago, and a few days ago the wings and fuselage got assembled.

Some primer was added to act as filler

    and sanding came next

I still need the last bits inside the cockpit, namely the seatbelt that holds the seatbelt. That will have to wait while attention turns to some of the other 109’s

next up I may have sourced some seatbelts to use for the straps that were common to “ausland” 109’s as well as the early ones including the Tony.

It is a big step in the build when the wings and fuselage finally are glued together, Erik (@airbum). Looking good.
