Well, idle time in the tower needed to be filled in Spiros @fiveten 🙂

Better starting correctly instead of having to do corrections in the end, Erik.

John @johnb, whatever you can do before comitting to the build will actually save time when embarking on the build - right?

    more Emil stuff

While I was rolling, I did some more work on one of the Emils in the stash

This is such a nice little kit, low priced, easy to build, and loads of AM details out there. What’s not to like? Do add a few to your stash, it can be built as a nice 109 OOB, or fill it with AM or scratchbuilt parts, your choice.

I decided to thin the exhaust shields

    Looks better that way

And then I started to open up the vents in the fuselage

Having chaindrilled with a thin drill, some knifework will follow later today
The cowling did get a bit more done, here you have one with and one without the thinning

It will be just that tiny bit nicer after assembly and paint – for those that will notice it that is. Sort of extra detailing without a lot of effort and at zero cost!

Do stay tuned to check up on the next 109 bits and pieces here at HalfWorks

    Fully agree Erik.

    Great 'tiny' looking details.

Nice drilling Erik! I still think Tamyia Emil is the best in the 48 scale, let’s see what the market brings around soon, perhaps I’ll have to change my opinion

    Erik, @airbum
Have you ever thought about changing professions and doing dental work or oil field work on the side ? 😉
You have the drilling part down to a science... I have a question for you... What size drill bit are you using for this work ?

Your "Kindergarten" work with these 109's, has convinced me to do the same thing with some 1/48 scale P-47's and the 1/48 scale Airfix P-40's that I have in the stash.

It is truly amazing how the little details like this will transform an already good looking model into a fantastic looking model. The best part is no cash is needed, only time and effort.

    Pedro, @holzhamer
I agree with you about these Tamiya Emil's being the nicest ones available. They're very easily built, have ample details, and the fit of the parts is spot on. Erik has demonstrated with a little effort, they can be brought up to even higher standards.

Thank you for all the kind words guys, I appreciate them!

Louis, I have to confess to being an "eyeball Mk1" guy, and I have no idea! I bought a handle with bits in it and I have used the smallest there is. I simply measured by holding it against the styrene, and as there was room to drill, I did just that. Some of the openings are too narrow, and has been opened by thinning the back with a drill and then cutting from the outside - I may have some pictures of that next week (have a few very long, very early days starting tomorrow as I have to get up at 4, and not home untill 18-19ish).

I did use the largest drill in the handle for the intakes for the sparkplug cooling air, but that will most likely be documented when I get back - first one were drilled with a small drill, but that is too small and a lot of work afterwards with a blade

Ill get back with a better picture or two next week.

Great looking modifications, Erik (@airbum). Looking forward to your 1/32 109 Werkes. They take up more shelf space, but the parts are easier to see for ancient eyes like mine.
