So I should try the Tamiya mixing of XF-1, XF-2, and XF-17 for the top coat?

    Wanting to build HV*J "Lorene"
Close up of cockpit. Looks like they masked the whole canopy off in the closed position before painting the plane.

Lorene without the fin fillet and with the bomb racks installed.

Close up of the nose art and note the flying jacket has the same art on it.

Good overall view of "Lorene" when view from the left rear quarter.

Good luck finding the right paint mix, David (@kahu). I am horrible trying to match paint colors, so I really try to use something straight out of the bottle. Especially true if I have to repaint or touch-up something after the first layer is painted and dry.

Thanks for the encouragement @fiveten, @johnb, and @gblair.

Those photos do help. There is another on Little Friends of Landowski and his wife, their caption, sitting on the wing of a P-47M and their slacks are black against the lighter color of the plane.

As for paint out of the bottle, Mr. Color 375 is the leading candidate. It is a very dark blue that is used on JASDF F-2s.

That's a good blue, David (@kahu). I'm no expert, but it sounds right.

Whole aircraft got a black coat. Next will be the dark blue and bare metal painting. Inching closer to finish line.

Getting close to the end, David (@kahu). I have been periodically using a black undercoat on my models. You can really get some interesting effects and weathering with a black base. Looking forward to seeing how the next colors go on.

    Smooth coating, David @kahu
Black coating is something I still want to try.

There I was thinking things were real spiffy with shiny paint. And then I see a seam looking back at me. Followed by finding some overspray. Oh well.

Then as I was painting the canopy with Ammo Mig acrylic paint for interior green color it started acting like oil and water mixing. So going to wash canopy frame and try again. Never had this happen before.

@kaku - canopy and windscreen interiors are flat black, not interior green.

A pity all this occurred, David @kahu
Will definitely go better next time.

Luckily it was acrylic paint that was still very fresh so the green is gone. Frame been painted black. Shot to do another round of Vallejo metallic for the canopy frame.

Still wondering if I should run some lead wires on the engine to simulate ignition wires.
