Picked this kit up off of Ebay several years ago, one of those barely started some pieces painted with crazy colors for a song. I picked up the Cobra Co. resin update set for this for the interior components. Really is a difference compared to what comes in the box. New seats along with ft and rear cockpits. Very nice set from Cobra. Refinishing the interior In Aeromaster Russian Grey/Green and MM flat black. The kit is molded in tan plastic, it was the only game in town for quite awhile i this scale. It still holds it's own despite that the rotor blades hit the tail rotor if this was the real machine. So the tail is too short. I am building this as an Iraqi helo that participated in the first Gulf War in 1991. The scheme shows the colors being Stone/Dk Earth over Sky. But seem to remember seeing these when I was inspecting one in more of a Desert Dark Yellow or Tan/Dk Earth over Lt Blue? But several references list the first scheme, so I went with that but you will in my opinion it doesn't look right to me. The kit itself has some inaccuracies but still builds up to a typical Monogram kit, a little challenging but fulfilling when it's finished. Despite it's age and engineering, the newer kits are not much better. Maybe more detailed, more parts, but no better in accuracy. But then that is what I have read and since I have not even seen any of the new kits, I myself cannot say if this is true. The crew compartment was painted Lt Grey, the wheel well interiors and doors a Medium Blue/Grey along with the main and nose gear struts. The resin wheels again from Cobra were painted Aeromaster Russian Hub & Radome Green.

Don't you hate it when you click the wrong button, instead of add images you hit the post reply button. With main airframe together now, the resin bits all done. Time to add the winglets and windscreen. Also threw in a couple of images of the partially assembled and painted components I had to work with when I received the kit. Colors chosen were not even close. Just someone that was building a model and lost interest. More to follow.

Good looking kit Chuck. I'' be following this build - I always fancied having a go at one of these. Nice work so far.

It should look great when you are done. This was the first helicopter model I'd ever built, and it is a heck of a kit. No major fit issues, nice cockpit detail and a nice imposing look when finished. The only thing I did was to gradually curl the rotor blades between my fingers to give them some droop. You should totally try one of these Gregor, it's a fun build! I'll be doing a second to replace my first that suffered the ravages of time...And cats.

I enjoyed building it, in fact I can't think of any Monogram kit I that I have built that I felt wasn't worth the effort. Raised panel lines never was an issue with me. Have quite a few Monogram/Revell kits in the stash. Despite their age they do hold up well with the more modern engineered kits. My opinion of course, for those of us who grew up with them.

Haven't built a helicopter kit since I was a kid - Airfix Sea King, which had a working winch - great fun. The 1/48 Monogram kits look good from Chuck's pictures, and I fancy doing one. Trouble is all the other kits in the stash I have to get to - there a few great Monogram kits in there too!

Now a little update, with a lot of the images lost on a previous camera SD card, a lot of the progress will not be seen between the pre-shading and the airbrushing of the camouflage. Was able to retrieve some of the images before final finish. Some of the images will show just my technique of airbrushing some components while still on the sprues. Cobra Co. resin wheels painted in Aeromaster Russian Hub Green. The main rotors and tail painted in Lt Ghost Grey 36375. This about the last of the prepainted images. next set show the scheme already airbrushed, clear coated and the decals already applied. The decal sheet calls for Lt Stone/Dk Green over Sky. When it actually think it should be Tan (more yellow than a sand color) Dk Green over Lt blue. Especially when I walked up to one after the Gulf War (one of those times I didn't have my camera on me,GRRRRRRRRRRR!) and I can really believe the under surface had blue in it not Green or a Green Grey like Sky is? Anyway two different sources says Sky, so I went with that, though I really should've gone with the light blue or HellBlau. The last 3 images will be the final set. With the landing gear installed, only the final detail bits are left to assemble and she is finished. Thanks for viewing,
