We certainly live in a Golden Age of modeling, but in ways we might not have expected. One of those marvels of this Golden Age is exploring eBay, watching the “3D printed” aisle for anything new, obscure, and interesting. Lo and behold: a 1/48th Vought O2U Corsair.
From the photos, it was advertised as “one piece.” It certainly appeared that way. It could even come “pre-painted” (i declined). I had to buy it, to see for myself.
You must understand, anything like this is a gamble. This is legal gambling. I almost lost out.
My box arrived with a half-melted model inside. It was indeed one piece. Amazing, but unfortunately the packaging left something to be desired. A few unhappy correspondence with the vendor later, i was asked to try hot water and bending to fix it. I was doubtful, but incredibly it worked. I was amazed how it looks good as new.
Certainly amazing technology.
It’s a little rough for competition scale modeling standards, but it certainly is good enough. I want to attempt a professional level of finish on it, however i know nothing about the O2U.
My request to you is thus: any reference or information on the Vought O2U and aviator Schilt’s personal aircraft that he used to achieve the Medal Of Honor down in Nicaragua.
Thanks for looking
