@stephen-w-towle, it would be an honor to have you on this thread as well. A herd of Ponies can never be too big.

@gblair, learning while performing this amazing hobby is simply the that can happen. Great pictures about those fuel tanks, they do have many benefits like the weight for example, much easier to handle than metal ones to my opinion.

@f-104nut, thanks, Brian. I do need to get started with this one soon.

Flattery will get you get you nowhere. But, having fun is a easy Rabbit hole to fall into. I have a Academy cannon armed A-36 which is a rehash of the Accurate Miniatures version. I've decided to embellish it with some P-51 D parts and have on order some belts and instruments to make it more interesting. I loath to start another kit. But, my current builds and the paints and what not are a easy cross over. I'm in. I'm a working stiff and belong to "Club-S-Cargo" more a weekend modeler. Think molasses.

Another though or a good resource for everything P-51, the book "Building the P-51 Mustang" by Michael O'leary is of great help. Its printed by Specialty Press.
    ISBN 978-1-58007-152-9
The book draws heavily from the Alpha Archive, which is to say that the photos where taken for either the Governments or North American Aviation benefit. Many of them showing production line photos of various models of the Mustang .

My bad it's Academy P-51 A Mustang. Allison powered with four cannons. Few camo options. The Brits wanted cannons. Interesting that the B and C Mustangs had problems with with the MGs jamming while the Brits make no mention of the cannons having problems.

Still more than welcome to add it to this groupbuild, Stephen @stephen-w-towle
Need to find a more proper title with all those variants though.

I am finally moving again on my P-51B. Everything is assembled and ready to paint. I wanted to start with some black primer, but that made some of the markings a little more difficult. This plane has a yellow tail and yellow stripes on the wings. The yellow portions have a thin black like separating the yellow areas from the khaki. Before painting the yellow portions, I sprayed a thin layer of white. Spraying the yellow directly over the black would have been a disaster, so a tiny bit of white solves the problem. The nose has a red section and a white section. So, with the initial painting done, I plan to let it dry for 24 hours, mask everything off, and then work on the khaki/olive drab.

I finally got to paint the underside of the airplane. This build seems to be taking a long time, but my wife and I are fighting sinus infections. I have had mine for 6 weeks and my wife has had hers for 4 weeks. We made our 3rd trip to the doctor today, and got our third round of ever-stronger drugs. Hopefully these will do the trick. Here are a few pictures:

Sorry to hear about your ongoing sinus infections, my friend @gblair! Let's hope both of you will recover soon.
Your painting results are superb, those undersides look very realistic.
