    Getting back on track

Encouraged I now get going with the Eduard P51

She-who-must-be-obeyed asked me yesterday how things were with her Mustang. I had to admit it had been parked against the wall, and was not at present in the in-progress rythm. She looked at me. And so it came back on the bench.

I started by assembling the PE IP (Photoetched Instrumentpanel). Eduard was kind enough to include extra handles for everything, and two of them were needed

Next they wanted me to install the IP and get on with the fuselage. No way – I anticipated a lot of tears if I did not protect the IP etc, and placed the windscreen where it is supposed to go. Having read the instructions once again, I noted they wanted a manual sight.

Well – long story short, it was impossible for me to find space for it – I crushed the outer ring and scratched the glass in the process.

And so it got left out, and I polished the inside of the windscreen as best I could.

I know this is a Profi Pack, but there are such an abundance of small parts to add – VERY small parts!

Oh, well, it will all come together nicely in the end, and with a few more items to install before primer, it is back to the bench for more happy-time with sharp objects, miniscule parts and a lot of sniffing glue. Yeah.

next up just might be when ready for primer – be sure to tune in, and feel free to leave a comment or two

    Even on an Eduard!

Even on an Eduard kit LqS is useable

Just a short extra to let you know that during the assembly today Liquifired Styrene (LqS) were used.

The instructions called for some filler to be used, and I masked the two hatches in need of filling, and brought out the jar of LqS. While I were at it, some seams were treated as well.

Apart from that, quite a few small items were installed along with some more PE parts, like the “grin” at the very front.

And now it will have to have time to cure, so it’ll be a while before it re-appears

You had a great day of progress, Erik.
That IP looks very nice and detailed.
Seems like the 'She-who-must-be-obeyed' had some positive influence on you with her look.

    Great progress Erik @airbum!
    Nice detail at the “grin”...
My Do-you-have-time-for-that? have never sent me that look - at least not in this context - so my Eduard P51 stays in my stash for now

    Finally

After 3 months drying time the LqS gets sanded

Well – that should be sufficient I think. And so, today some sanding got underway

Looking a lot smoother by now

Hopefully it won’t be another 3 months before next post on this one

    Absolutely smoother, Erik.
    Looking great.
What is typically the drying time of LqS before it can be fully treated?

I bet this LqS became a styrene part...

@johnb, it really depends on the mix, and what type of styrene and glue you use. The one I use is a mix of Tamiya sprue and some really old Humbrol thin glue, and it will take a few days to fully cure. It can be worked after a few hours to rough shape it, but to make a lasting smooth finish it takes at least 24 hours - I usually add it and then move on to another build, coming back a week (or more) later.

@fiveten, yep - very workable and just the same feel as all other styrene in the kit.
