Regarding the color, the only time the planes were "one correct" shade was when they left the paintshop. Panels amd major parts got changed throughout their lives, and the exact shade will depend on the batch of paint used. One example is the T-17's used today, where one wing may be another color than the other and a lot of shades will be the result. When the time comes I can see if I can get a sample from one.

Just to illustrate, here you have a picture of a RDAF T-17 taken in 2008

I know what you mean regarding "correct" shades.

Even more so, as I have witnessed cases in the AIr Force that the supplied FS paint can have different shades, depending on the manufacturer. A couple of years before, I read from a credible source (cannot remember specifics...) that FS specs allow a 10% divergence...

So, the shade situation is a maginificent multifarious (!) subject!

Thanks for bringing on this great additional info, my friend @airbum.

I think John @j-healy will find it very interesting too!

P.S. I just LOVE the contrast of the small red Danish roundels to the dark green...whatever that dark green is! - LOL

Finding the "correct" color is usually finding the color that you prefer, not necessarily the color that is called for. You would think that all planes start out the same color when they come out of the paint shop, as Eric (@airbum) poiinted out, but I think there may be a little variation in the paint even then. I had a job just before I retired from the Air Force that allowed me to occasionally visit the aircraft paint shop. I was amazed at the variables introduced right from the start. You could get slight variations from the paint manufacturer, different paint manufacturers, variations in the amount of thinner put in, differences in how much paint is applied, and so on. All of these change the way the paint looks right from the paint shop, and then you throw in climate differences or seasonal differences, how much they were flown, if they were parked on a flight line or in a shelter, panel repair, etc and you get a bunch of different shades the plane could be. And the modeler often doesn't know any of this info. So, now you are depending on color info in a picture, which again, could have a thousand variables into how the color is shown. I think photos are never more than a guide.

I agree, Spiros (@fiveten), that the dark green with the red Danish roundels looks awesome. I was looking through my decals yesterday and found some decals for a Danish F-100 and F-84 that may need to move into the build list.

George @gblair, I think your commenting sums up everything about the process of choosing a modelling colour. I cannot agree more with EVERYTHING you mentioned. This is my modeller's approach to choose a paint.
As for the F-100 and F84, please bring them on!

The Danish Draken is a great choice, Spiros. I will be motivated to get on with my own Draken as well. I will do the metallic undersides with the same metalizer I will use on the F-86 and Shiden Kai. I have to figure out the Swedish colors too but I have pretty much settled on Gunze Midnight Blue and OD for a weathered look. Good luck on the Danish colors. I see at least two different shades on that T-17 - which I think was Erik's point. I would go with semigloss green for a scale effect, personally.

Semigloss will definitely be my choice, Colin @coling! Totally agree with you!
As for you Draken, please bring it on! I'm happy my build decision motivated you.
This midnight blue and green side by side, with the grey + metalizer belly undersides will be striking!
Thanks for constructive commenting, my friend!

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Best looking jet ever! (Although I have two or three close runners up.)

This will be a great build, Spiros. I always liked the look of the Draken ever since Revell issued their ancient 1/72 kit way back, I did one here a little while ago. I agree that it's one of best looking jets ever, but I kind of lean towards the USAF F-106, and I'm a Navy guy.

Thanks Josh @jpatt1000 and Robert @roofrat, This double delta, with the air intakes at the fornt end, that fin, that tail section in general...a real beauty. I've read it was the jet to introduce the "Cobra" maneuver

    Have you checked this video?

Robert, your Draken looks splendid and I love that green!

And the Delta Dart is a most beautiful plane.

A great video! Nice music too. I wonder if that was the photographer we say wiping his face.

What a cool video, Spiros (@fiveten). They were obviously doing the cobra maneuver, very cool, although the puffs of exhaust coming from the plane during the maneuver seems to indicate it is hard for the engine to digest. Gotta be a good engine to abruptly interrupt the airflow to the engine and not have an engine stall.

Totally agree with you George @gblair. That engine would starve of airflow during the extreme Cobra angle of of attacks
The Drakens wore a licensed built RR Avon turbojet. Looks to have been able to handle such extremities!
    Thanks for nice commenting!

Quality Controllers QC1 and QC2 got promoted to Quality Assurance Representatives (QARs 1&2).

QAR1 was busy trying to fix some electric RCs:

So I had an Initial Kit Evaluation from QAR2.

Result: Accepted with very positive comments about the allover Hasegawa quality.

As a bribing, both QARs will have a week's vacation, along with the family, starting from tomorrow.

This means (sadly) no modelling, only commenting via the net, for a week.

Still, it will be most of a pleasure to talk with friends here and admire your jobs.

    All the best!

Do enjoy the week! I also have a week off, and apart from the occasional visit to the Jungle (used to be my garden) it will be modeling and painting and. . .

I didn't realize that the Draken was such a large plane. The model looks like it will equivalent in size to an F-102 or an F106. This build should be fun. Enjoy your week. Be sure to take your QC staff out for a mini-holiday somewhere.
