I am really looking forward to this one, Brian (@brithebuilder). I have had my eye on this Fujimi kit, but I have waited because I didn't know anything about the kit. Now you have solved that problem. Looking forward to the build.

Brian, does the kit include an engine?

@chinesegeorge - I think most of the PE is going to go on pretty easily. The seat rivets are definitely going to be tedious.

@beauslx - I'm cross eyed just thinking about it Robert.

@fiveten - I love the details Spiros! The diorama is going to have some cool hidden bits too.

@johnb - Other than the seat rivets, I think it's actually going to be a relatively quick build. Fingers crossed anyway.

@gblair - So far, visually, the details look good, very little flash. Hopefully the fit and finish match the Tamiya GT.

@garybrantley - Hey Gary, no engine. The kit is a curbside, as they say... anyone know where that term came from? Why do 'curbside' kits have less details?

That's a shame, Brian. I would've thought an engine would be in that kit. I have the old 1/25 Monogram 2D Chapparal racer that's also a curbside model. I was a bit disappointed by that after all the great engine choices and details in those '60s Ford GT kits! But no worries, you'll turn out a beauty, engine or not! 😉 😊

Hi @brithebuilder, it’s my guess that “kerbside”, note the correct spelling, just means what you would normally be able to see if you were standing on the kerb and looking at the car, so no engine detail, or very little anyway. That’s my guess for what it’s worth. I’m sure the GT40 will look great, especially in the Gulf colour scheme.

@garybrantley - I was a bit disappointed by the lack of engine at first. As I realized, I wouldn't want to display it with the engine bay open anyway, it stopped mattering.

@chinesegeorge - Funny on the spelling George, it's definitely 'Curb' here in the states. And, after I asked here, I decided to read a little, it seems it has to do with the 'Curb Appeal' as it were. You are exactly right on that one, just as if you were standing on the sidewalk/curb and looking at the parked car.

Ok, so seat progression. It's really not that bad. If you're a glutton for punishment. This is about an hour... maybe an hour and a half tops. I ended up using Testors canopy glue. It's a bit more forgiving than CA. After installing all of them and using a non stick sculpting tool to really press them into the seat divots I still needed to sand it a little. After touching up the paint and adding a black wash the first seat looks pretty great.

Time estimate was definitely off. I added all the washers to the second seat since the last post, about an hour and a half just to place them. I will still need to do some light sanding and then touch up painting, so about another hour... so 2 1/2 hours per seat... that's not bad. Then to make seat belts.

Those seats are impressive, Brian @brithebuilder
Almost a full day of labor but definitely worth the result.

21/2 hours isn't to bad for the seats. They are a very prominent detail of the GT40. @brithebuilder
Just think, after the GT40 you do the Fujimi 917K in Gulf colors.

Whew. Looking at all those washers you installed looks like a lot of extra work but those 2.5 hrs you spent were well worth it, Brian @ brithebuilder. I wonder just how comfortable those seats on the real car are?

Anybody ever look into Meng’s GT40? I wonder how it stacks up?
