Accurate Miniatures 1/48 SB2U-1 ‘Vindicator”

December 31, 2012 · in Aviation · · 3 · 2.3K

This and the SB2U-3 are the last ones for 2012.

Done back in 2005, using the Yellow Wings Decals "Dive Bomber" set to do the airplane from VB-3 that was used when LCDR Joe Blake (Fred MacMurray) took LT Doug Lee (Erroll Flynn) for his first airplane ride. Also used the Falcon Models SB2U vac canopy, which made "stacking" the rear canopy much easier.

I've always thought of the SB2U-2 as one of the "Golden Wings" airplanes that truly epitomized the era with its combination of "old" (fabric-covered airframe) and "new" (monoplane)..
