Revell’s F-101B Voodoo in 1/72 scale
This is my most recent completion: the little Revell Voodoo in 1/72 scale finished in the colors of 444FIS.
The kit is very nice even straight out of the box, but I ended up adding additional detail to several places. Firstly, wanted to show the Falcon's in the lowered position so scratched the missile bay. Also, added lots of little pieces to the afterburners. They just looked too plain to me 🙂 Cockpit and landing gear were also enhanced.
Paints were Xtracrylix and Tamiya, and decals mostly Microscale. Weathering was kept to minimum since these ADC planes were kept very clean.
Best,
Petri
One word : fantastic.
Petri... Great looking VooDoo and a swell presentation. I like seeing the aircraft in it's natural environment.
I loves me a Voodoo, and you've got a great looker there. Fine job, congratulations!
Gary
Excellent work!
Very nice. Awesome build
Holy Cow (no need for the bleeper program)...if you hadn't told me that was a 1/72nd scale, I'd have bet the farm that was Monogram's 1/48th kit. Outstanding, sir.
Id say a top 3 finalist for this months contest, no doubt!
Fantastic, I thought it was !/48!
Incredible, and 1/72!
Thanks all for your comments. They are much appreciated 🙂
Beautiful model, Petri.
I'm a huge fan of the 101. The 444th at Charleston AFB had an enviable safety record with the big jet.

Thanks David,
the 101 must have been a real impressive sight when under full power. And the noise ... 🙂 My favourite Century series fighter.
Didn't you also work on this kit? Seem to remember a thread at BM. Would love to see what you can get out of this one.
Best,
Petri
Petri - I just bought this kit, and was looking for some reference resources. I think I'll just attempt to duplicate everything you've done! Wonderful work. I was originally trying to find an A model to finish in NMF as that is what my dad flew, but even though I found a conversion set for the RF-101B, that single-seater model kit (old Hasegawa) has raised panel lines and I don't think it would detail out as nice in NMF. I'll settle for an ADC grey on the Revell kit and a SEA scheme on the RF.
Greg, Detail & Scale had a volume on the 101, as did Squadron, though both might be hard to find, except on Ebay.
Greg, Detail & Scale and Squadron both had books on the F101. Might take some looking.
Hi Greg,
Thanks for your compliments, and I'm happy that you like this one 🙂
The Detail & Scale and Squadron books on Voodoo Bernard mentioned above are definitely worth hunting down. Also the Warpaint volume on F101 is good. The best walkaround I found is on Phil Juvet's site:

Also, a build article on my Voodoo appeared in Air Modeller 41:

I agree with you that it would be really nice if someone would produce a A/C model to same standards as the Revell one. Still, the old Hasegawa kit apparently has good shapes. Hope to see progress pics of your Voodoo here.
Best,
Petri
A real beauty ! Very realistic finish. I can't believe it is 1/72. Kind regards - Paul
