Special Hobby 1/48 Fiat G.55 “Sottoserie 0″

December 3, 2012 · in Aviation · · 2 · 2.4K

This kit I did about four or five years back, when it was first released. As a big fan of Italian planes, it is interesting to compare the G.55 to the Macchi C.202 and C.205. The G.55 went into service in 1943, right before the Italian Armistace, so the Regia Aeronautica had it only briefly before the ANR took them all over. The Co-belligerent side never used the G.55. /MPM/Flying Machines kits, being short-run, require more "modelling skills" than Tamiya or Hasegawa kits, especially when it comes to getting the parts fit right. But the surface detail is first-rate, and the end result is, to me anyway, rewarding. The kit was built straight out of the box, including decals. I chose to do this particular aircraft because of the interesting, complex and challenging paint scheme.

  1. Having seen this one "in person," it looks even better than the photos.

  2. I've really enjoyed ogling your "Italian Stallions", Kevin. Great builds all and the warm tones of the RA colors are very pleasing to the eye.
