Fine Molds 1/48 A5M1 and A5M2b “Claudes”

January 7, 2013 · in Aviation · · 2 · 2.6K

Here's a pair of the Mitsubishi "Claudes" that I did last year. Fine Molds did several versions of this plane, these two being the A5M1 and A5M2b. The most accurate A5M kits in 1/48, the kits are really quite simple, have the right amount of detail, and go together with little fuss. Released in the early 90s, these were some of the earliest kits by the company. White metal engine, prop and other small details also make these kits some of the earliest "multimedia" offerings, though in more recent years, Fine Molds kits have gone to an "all-styrene" format. They are a bit hard to come by these days, and can be pricey, but are well worth the effort once you get one (or more). Notice many significant differences in the two versions with regards to fuselage and engine shape. Hope you enjoy them; I am posting several of my 1/48 Japanese collection tonight.

  1. Nice finish on both...I like the red tailed version.

  2. Ah yeah, I remember these got more looks than anything past the Zero prototype last month. Another 10.
