1/72 Academy PBY 5A "Black Cat"

August 22, 2013 · in Aviation · · 6 · 3.9K

Who doesn't like seaplanes and amphibs? makes a nice looking series of 's. I had seen the weathered "Black Cat" version, and just had to give it a try. This is one I really feel looks better in person, than the photos. (Too much flash ,I guess) I think with this type of weathering, less is more, but it's hard not to get carried away when you how badly worn the actual aircraft got.

  1. Couple questions, Joe...did you use reference photos for the weathering and secondly, what method(s) did you utilize for the effect(s)..?

  2. great build...have a 1 48 to corrode away with lol

  3. That looks great! You're right, though, it's easy to get carried away weathering models. I always seem to lean toward "just a little bit more..."

  4. Looks great, and the weathering looks like the pictures I have seen in...Squadron PBY in Action maybe? Anyway great job!

  5. Joe, I think the flash has just highlighted part of the model I know it's difficult to photograph these big planes, it's certainly impressive.
