Mach II 1/72 Convair 440 Metropolitan – Continental Airlines Delivery scheme (Update)
Update on my previous contribution on the Mach II 1/72 CV-440. Many write-off these Mach II kits, and to be fair, they are not great but very often the only game in town for some subjects. All said, I don’t think it makes a bad representation of this classic propliner. All appears to be the right shape and scale, and with gear up, windows filled, it looks pretty good.
The decals are from Vintage Flyer Decals. I have to say that the decals from VFD are outstanding. Considering all the fine detail pinstripes, application was relatively painless.
It’s far from a super detail kit but does make a pretty looking display model.

Very crisp, clear and well done model, sir….your bare metal paint looks outstanding (as does the detail of the decal application). Nice work.

Very nice, Alastair! I approve completely of the color scheme, though that airplane was a bit before my time… 🙂 Our DC-3 is in the same markings, though we no longer own it.

Alastair,
Beautifuly done. Your finish is excellent. Agree with you about MachII kits. The basics are there but the kits need lots of TLC. I have built a number of these kits for a friend no they are definitely not Tamiya. I posted an article on my Convair in UAL livery. I also used VFD and they are great. I like your model very much.

Beautiful Convair 440, Alastair!
Talk about a big arse bird! That huge tail kinda ruins the look for me … but it’s a cool old bird!
