1/72 Italeri CANT Z.501 Gabbiano
This is an old Italeri kit that I bought from a collector and managed to spruce up a bit. I re-scribed the main wing along with some other details around the engine nacelle and radiator, I re-positioned the tail control surfaces, added control horns on the main wing, and a mooring cleat on the bow. All support and control cables are 2lb mono filament line. The kit decals were unusable, so I went with one of LF Models Cant Z.501 over Spain excellent sets, applied over a dull silver. The antenna is 2lb line as well, with CA glue insulators.
Nice work...don't recall seeing one of these modeled before.
I don't know of any that were restored either. At least I couldn't fine any photos of one.
Looks great Phil, I really like it. I think that's the old Supermodel kit, re-boxed by Italeri.
Could be. It was fairly well molded and didn't require much clean up or filling.
It's an Italeri kit alright, it has been in their catalogue since the 1970s.
But nice work and interesting to see it in post-SCW markings
Peter
Thanks Peter !
Some neat work there, Phil.
Thanks George !
I think I built this model in the 1970's but mine was silver with red/orange stripes on the top wing. Nice clean build, you did a better job than me on the rigging!
Yes, I saw several models while doing research that were painted that way, all with Italian livery. LM makes four sets of markings, all Spanish. I also saw a photo of a nice RC model in flight.
Well done, Phil. These old kits take some close attention, and you seemed to have pulled this one back from the brink. It reminds me of a Revell re-boxing of an old Matchbox 1/72 Stranraer I did about three years ago. Hard work.
STRANRAER---Ahhhhhhhh !
Nicely done! I've got one of these in the stash - hope it turns out looking as good as yours.
Have a go with the after marker decals, you'll love'em.
