Testors Lincoln Mint 1/9 Harley FLSTC Heritage Softail Classic
I recently received this kit and have started building already. It's been a while since I posted here so I though it was time to change that.
As you can see here I have started with the priming of the main parts trees. This is being followed closely by the stripping of the chrome off of the parts that I plane to paint.
As always, feel free to ask any questions and to post any critiques as it comes along. I have a thick skin so I am not afraid of that whatsoever.
Here are photos of the engine part of the build. These are photos before and after the addition of the fuel, clutch and oil lines.
I have taken the time to remove the little plastic nubs that are supposed to look like "rivets". They have been replaced with gold pins after the drilling of a LOT of holes. These photos show the process. The shiny aspect in the final photo will not be there after installation. I'll be shooting this, the seat, and the other saddlebag with a dull-coat just before final installation.
Framework and hand grips have been completed.
Here is the front end ready to be mounted as well as the frame complete and ready for the adding of the small details, like tires...
Here's a shot of the bike in progress on the workbench.
Exhaust was done with flat black, Brass, and Bare Metal Foil for a little added realism.
A couple of engine close-ups showing some of the detail work that I added.
Here is the finally completed model.
Now that this one is complete. For those of you considering this model. Be hesitant when making the purchase. I had a number of headaches during the construction. Parts that weren't molded correctly, parts that didn't match the instructions and parts that just flat didn't fit like they were supposed to. I definitely would NOT suggest this is a first kit for someone wanting to build a bike. Tamiya makes a far better product for that. I did contact Testors in regards to this and the response I received was that since this kit had been off the market for about 5 years there wasn't anything that they could do. Well, my question to them would be will they do a retooling on a future release or will it stay the same?
Thanks to my many friends that provided input during this build. It was a complete pain in the rear but it's now on to, hopefully, bigger and better things.
This kit reminds me of the movie "Electra Glide in Blue" starring Robert Blake. The star of the show was the Harley. The rest of it I have forgotten...looks like the model is "Sta"r worthy Harry.
I'm still not sure just where this one will end up. I rarely do at the start of a model. But it won't look like the one from the movie. That one was a Police Special Electra Glide style as you can see here.

However you end up finishing it, I know it'll be a beauty based on your past builds. I look forward to the finished build.
Yes I'll 'second' that.
Nice start.
I'm sure this will be another classic build from you.
Looking forward to the completed motorcycle.
