Water Wings Group Build

September 21, 2016 · in Aviation · · 8 Comments

I am well underway with the GWH TBD Devastator float plane. I am impressed with the quality of the molding and the engineering in this kit, my first from GWH. It doesn't appear to require much filler or sanding, but I am sure I will find something I can goof up. Looking forward to seeing the other builds!

  1. Very interesting choice, Jeff. Looking forward to the finished product!

  2. Now there's a rare bird, the floats must have really slowed the TBD down, looks great.

  3. Seems like the navy will try to put floats on least once! 🙂

  4. Greg, witness the "Wildcatfish"! The Japanese seemed to do better than most. Trumpeter put that Wildcat version (one built) out, though I wonder how many of them sold. The TBD was slow enough, already. When it came out, it was state of the art. Unfortunetly, that didn't last long, overcome by developments. Mind you, RN had Swordfish through the war.
There was also a float C-47, which I thought was really bizarre.

  5. That model is coming along very nicely, really looking good! I too look forward to seeing it finished
What really amazes me though is that a model that nice can be produced i a workspace that clean and neat 🙂
