Jindivik towed target
The Jindivik drone could be fitted with a number of pods, wing extensions, flares and towed targets. The photos are showing the target that is displayed with the JIndivik at the Classic Jets Fighter Museum at Parafield, South Australia. Included are also a few shots of the pylon holding it before release.
Wow...so this thing was TOWED by the drone or RELEASED by the drone as a target?
Towed. It was cradled by the pylon seen on the photo. A wire was attached in the loop seen on top of the target so the target could be reeled out. Thanks to its weight and non flying surfaces it would position itself behind and well below the Jindivik drone. A flare was lit to attract IR missiles. Scroll down for a photo of this here http://www.ctie.monash.edu.au/hargrave/rpav_jindivik.html Lots of interesting information regarding the Jindivik program.
Very interesting. Never seen one. Thanks for posting.
My pleasure, Jeffrey.
