“The Bellero Shield”

December 4, 2018 · in Figures · · 4 · 2.4K

The Bellero Shield” is a 1964 episode of the the Television series “ The Outer Limits”

The “ Bifrost Alien is an accidentally intercepted visitor from the distant stars who falls victim to tho the grasping and greedy humans that he has come in contact with. Martin Landau plays a professor trying to make contact with distant planets. His light beam captures the Bifrost and he is transported to Martins laboratory. The Bifrost has in his possession a button which can put up a shield ( Bellero Shield) which will protect him from harm. However he is curious about humans so he puts down the shield and in an attempt to learn humans and teach about where he comes from. Martins wife, Sally Kellerman, and his house keeper, Chita Rivera, plot to seize the button for the shield and in turn destroy the Bifrost. He is the most benevolent and betrayed being. The Bifrost is played by the old actor John Hoyt.

This was another figure that my friend has had for many years. This is the third one I have done for him and it is a kick to have license to do just about what I want to paint them. All the figures I have done for him follows their scheme but due to black and white TV and photos, a lot is my interpretation. Bifrost comes from a star and is completely white. His suit has a glow to it. I primed the resin and then painted heavy black into all of the creases and crevices. Then I over sprayed the entire figure with flat white. I found a can of Rust-Oleum “Pearl Mist” and over sprayed his clothing giving it a very shiny faux metallic look. The Bifrost also had one very shiny tooth which in the episode appears to possibly be a diamond. It would suggest that the star he came from had an excellent dental plan. For this tooth I insert a model railroad lens.

Very simple and I get a kick out doing these figures and hope my friend finds another one hidden some where.

This figure is from of San Francisco. It was sculpted by Chris Choin, and is scale and was a limited edition of 500.

  1. Nicely done Frank, do remember the show "The Outer Limits'" but not that episode. Always considered the show similar to "The Twilight Zone'" but with more aliens and monsters. Glad you had some fun doing it, it looks good, especially the tooth.

  2. “There is nothing wrong with your television set”...Frank, another ‘Outer Limits’ build! Brilliantly told and well built and rendered.

..."There is a passion in the human heart which is called aspiration. It flares with the noble flame, and by its light Man has traveled from the caves of darkness to the darkness of outer space. But when this passion becomes lust, when its flame is fanned by greed and private hunger, then aspiration becomes ambition – by which sin the angels fell."

From the opening of ‘The Ballero Sheild’.

  3. Frank, Interesting that aliens wore turtle necks !, I look forward to the finished product. I always enjoyed these shows.

  4. I like the 'outer limits' as a modelling topic. That's two in a row - hope you can find some more of these. An alien in a turtleneck is quite funny 🙂 It sounds like an interesting character and I will be seeking out this episode.
